do these people not believe in chains, studded tires, anti-lock brakes, or basic drivers ed?
And I though people around here were bad snow drivers

I saw a video like this on real TV once but it was in a place with a bigger hill and the hit alot harder in four different directions. good stuff.
After our nice ice storm here, I realized that my mustang wasn't exactly fit for snow driving. However I never ran into anyone. I never even had a problem stopping. My problem was taking off!
Jumped in my g/f car that was FWD and it was piece of cake. I was playing all day long with the e-brake.
The funny thing about that video is the diving people. If your scared of hitting someone at 10 miles and hour (which wouldn't even set off your air bags), then you have a serious necrophobia problem. Which is kind of ironic, since you just jumped into 10x worse danger.

Chains are illegal and studs are expensive.

They're illegal? Haha, the mail trucks around here had them when it iced over a few weeks ago. My mom mentioned having them on the cars when she lived in Rhode Island as a kid.

Chains are illegal here in Nova Scotia as well (well 'cept for the northerny bits.) since they are difficult to use properly and can cause serious damage when they come off of a spinning tire. I used to drive a 2.5L FWD plymouth Acclaim and that was the best car in the snow, now I drive a RWD Ford Crown Vic and I'm slipping and sliding all over the place.
Edit: explination as to why they are illegal.

Chains and studs do eat the roadway.
They're phasing out hard studs here (only legal during the winter, anyway) but chains are frequently require to get over the mountain passes.
Why in the name did they JUMP out of a car. I've hit someone that fast before and never once thought about jumping out, although it might have crossed Kryo's mind once or twice.
