It has come to my attention that anything related to Ford has a certain evil characteristic that would associate them with the devil. Let me explain.

Since Midas blew up my motor, I had Ford drop me in a new one and paid way too much for it. This was to get a nice warranty to where I wouldn't have to worry about anything. They dropped it in replaced the clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing and what not. When I got it back the clutch was lighter than a Honda's clutch. This caused much chattering trying to take off from a dead stop. Taking it back, they replaced the clutch and resurfaced the flywheel saying "We don't know what's wrong with it"

That was around November. Now my clutch is chattering, but not all the time. I have taken it to them 3 times now and they say im full of it. On the third time, I had a mechanic ride with me who stated that it was definitely chattering and my power was cutting out at around 3000 RPMs plus the motor vibrated way to much.

They said they "fixed everything" on trip 3. Worked great until the next day when it was all jacked up again including my loss of power at 3000 RPMs.

4th trip (and final because I was about to blow my stack), I said do whatever you have to so it can be FIXED PERMENANTLY. They finally got their heads out of their ass and told me my problem. The distributor pick up was breaking down so I had to get that replaced. Since it is original equipment, I have to pay for it. So I found a guy that will do it for 20 bucks.

The real kicker is what they said was wrong with my clutch. They told me my harmonic balancer was going. I just replaced that part in JULY! I told them this and stated that I thought it was the flywheel. They said that they were 99.9% sure it was the harmonic balancer. So I took the car back to the shop that installed the harmonic balancer and they are going to replace it for free thank god.

The funny thing is, a harmonic balancer is a big metal circle with a rubber piece on it. There is no freakin' way it is gonna just "go bad" in six months. I think that Ford broke it, or it really is the flywheel and I'm going to laugh my ass off when the harmonic balancer doesn't fix my problem.

My bosses Ford van has 50k miles on it and has had a world of problems. His Chevy van with 130k miles on it has had to have the fuel pump replaced... that's it. So whoever said Ford was better than Chevy can eat one.

Oh, and also my Posi-trac is dead. I'm officially the One Wheel Wonder.

personally, if i had to choose, i'd take a ford.

i had a 95 monte carlo, transmission blew up 4 times, replaced the alternator 3 times. wife has a 96 cavalier. we replaced the alternator when it was just a few years old. it had to have a major tune up about 3 years ago. it's a horrible piece of junk basically that we're going to get rid of as soon as we can afford a new car for her. every friend i've had that had a chevy has replaced the alternator at least once.

my 89 ford probe made it 9 years before i had to have the transmission worked on and i dogged the crap out of it when i got it (i was 16). my mercury cougar didn't have a single problem other than the fuel pump burning out which was my own fault for running it on EMPTY all the time. the gas gauge would say 1mi till empty pretty often. since ford mounts the fuel pumps inside the gas tank the only thing to keep them cool is the gasoline itself.

would i buy another ford? probably, but only if i couldn't afford an import for some reason. would i buy another chevy? NEVER. i wouldn't accept a chevy if someone paid me to take it. that blue bowtie is a crock of crap. the only present you get under that ribbon is a big fat repair bill and alot of lonely evenings spent on the side of the road.

plus xptb, consider how old your mustang is. top that off with the fact that you run it pretty hard and you have to figure things are going to break. sure, maybe the ford mechanics are big losers, but the car itself IMO has faired fairly well.

I didn't know Ford was your "hot button" Kryo

I'd rather have an import I realize. I was debating on what kind of car to get when I get older. It was between a new Mustang and a WRX STi. I know which one I'm choosing now.

I've been working on cars since 1973-1974. (in other words I have been keeping my and my kids' pieces of shit cars running myself) I have never seen, and don't think I know anyone, that has had a harmonic balancer actually go out.

I had a 1976 GMC truck that the harmonic balancer was coming apart, though only visually, there was no vibration from it. I removed the radiator, got a scissor type jack and a 2 x 4, and "jacked" the balancer back together. It was still running fine when I sold the truck two years later.

My son has a '92 Escort. The engine would vibrate occasionally, usually going up a hill...one of his buddies (he was in high school at the time) told him that the harmonic balancer was going out. I told him he had an electrical problem, or the O2 sensor was going bad. Of course, he wouldn't listen, dad doesn't know shit...this 17 year old kid that drives a ragged, smoking '86 Honda knows it all.

BTW, he at the time was planning to be a mechanic...and is now taking auto mechanics at NEMCC.

Some months later (it was much worse), he went out of town and I drove the car back and forth to work. I had made up my mind that I wasn't going to work on it, but one day I nearly didn't make it to work, so I decided to correct the problem. After about 5 minutes of research, I found that #1 coil on the ignition coil was dead, #1 plug was totally fouled out (and I mean FOULED-this thing hadn't fired in weeks), #1 plug wire was totally shorted, and two other plug wires were shorting occasionally. I put the spark plug on his pillow with a note..."here's your bad harmonic balancer!"

I say he "has" a '92 Escort....he wrecked it this morning going to school...he says its most likely totaled.

At least no more problem with the harmonic balancer.

I finally got details...he's ok, but ribs are sore. Hope none are broken, from personal experience, he'll know in another day or two. (bruised hurts bad...broken hurts 100 times worse)

He rolled it seven times. Thank the Lord he had his seatbelt on.

He rolled it seven times.

Ouch. He's a very lucky boy. I'm glad to hear he wasn't seriously hurt.

Well personally, I think each AND every car manf. has its probs. Some people just get a car that was put together poorly, specs just outside the "ok" line or whatever. I like ford just cause of the syle, options n so on but thats only in the explorer & mustangs.

But I would never buy a new car, rather have a bike anyday.

Talked to a guy who builds Nascar motors for a living. He looked at me funny when I said Ford told me the harmonic balancer was causing the clutch to chatter due to engine vibration. Funny thing is, he does business with the same guy that is helping me at Ford. It's an odd world.

And I think this guy knows his motors, he can built a full motor in 20 minutes lol.

Today is the day I find out if Frank is 100% right 8)

Well, yesterday was the day of horrible tragedy like it always is.

Get my distributor fixed and go to put it back in, and I had the thing off one tooth i believe. She wouldn't crank. After 1 hour of messing with it and damn near getting it back to working, my battery dies. When I say dies, I mean I can't jump it off anymore.

My total so far is 50 for the distributor part + 60 for the battery = 110 dollars.

I had to get the car towed to a shop because I needed my car. That was 127 bucks for towing and fixing.

Total would be 110 + 127 = 237. Ford was going to charge me 230 to get it fixed last saturday. Hurray for me.

The real kicker is that IT DIDN'T FIX MY PROBLEM. So Ford diagnosed it wrong after the 4th trip up there. Now it turns into trip 5. I called them and bitched dude out about how they owe me 177 dollars. (im not gonna get them to pay for my battery). I am so pissed off right now.

I can't wait to see what happens on Tuesday when my new harmonic balancer gets put in. I'm about 99% sure that won't fix the problem.

So on my way to work friday night I lost all the Forward gears out of my lovely DArk Blue 1993 Crown Vic. I had to reverse all the way home good thing is was only a kilometer, on lightly populated roads. I'd like to set the car on fire the put it in a car crusher, push the car crusher into a river then hurl the river into the sun. I miss my 1987 Ponitac 6000 why oh why did I ever sell it.

I have a friend who blows the fuse that allows the heater to work every time he uses the turn signal. :) Yeah for older crown vics.
