Talking on a cell phone makes you drive like a retiree even if you're only a teen, a new study shows.
hmm
In fact, motorists who talk on cell phones are more impaired than drunken drivers with blood-alcohol levels exceeding 0.08, Strayer and colleague Frank Drews, an assistant professor of psychology, found during research conducted in 2003.
Sounds about right to me.....of course I dont drive like that when I am talking on my cell phone. :wink:

Hmm... I think I already saw this today... might have been on /.
Regardless, I find the article kind of stupid, since we already know that cell phone usage impares driving, they're just making arbitrary comparisons.

Note; no offense to anyone who talks on the phone a lot while driving, I'm referring to random idiots here.
Personally I think Driving while Driving is a good idea and that it should be ILLEGAL to talk on the cell phone while driving. Over half the people in my state can't drive BEFORE they get on the phone..... I drive a manual transmission, always have.. I dislike trying to juggle a steering wheel, shifter, and cell phone between 2 hands, risking an accident, just to hear the latest gossip from annoying wanker X who just called. (Note; Low profile tires like to turn the wheel by themselves on some surfaces :wink: that's bad with a phone in one hand, while you're shifting into 2nd with the other expecting to be traveling straight.. )
My peeves;
Driving 15mph under the speed limit bouncing between the lines on the road barely paying attention and mucking up the flow of traffic....
Tailgating me with the phone in one hand.. talking on it.. and waving your other hand in the air like "WTF are you going to SLOW??!?" (the one that should be on the steering wheel) when I'm going 10mph Over the speed limit..
