Microsoft Avalon is basically next DX 10

We present the name Avalon as codename for graphic subsystem which Microsoft plans to release with Longhorn. As we said in our previous article Avalon will be available for Windows XP and some other versions of Windows as well

We also can confirm that Longhorn will introduce a 3D desktop and therefore Avalon will have to fix some stuttering effects that occur in the current DirectX

yeh, this will be a huge flop. i can't imagine that microsoft will be able to get it right the first time. we'll all be waiting on service pack 1 for longhorn before 3d desktops work correctly.

besides, imagine what this will do to "idle" temps. your vid card is going to be processing 3d textures constantly.

on a somewhat "sci-fi" note....imagine if our desktops did become as good as today's games. imagine browsing through windows explorer in the same manner as the network/file browser in the movie Hackers.
