Ten times faster than current PC chips, sound like a bit of a strech to me.

i'm not very impressed by the numbers especially when they are trying to call it a supercomputer on a chip and it's 50x slower than the slowest supercomputer.

A little Q&A about the new chip.

from the Q&A:

"According to IBM, today's microchips were created with word processors and spreadsheets in mind and therefore struggle to cope with tasks such as downloading music and displaying video. The Cell chip has been designed to address this shortcoming. "

that is the stupidest thing ive ever heard. yeah, let me tell you, my processor has one hell of a time downloading music....

"The chip will run at speeds of greater than 4 GHz, the firms said.

By comparison, rival chip maker Intel's fastest processor runs at 3.8 GHz. "

And.. my cpu at 2.8Ghz makes the 4Ghz P4 look ridiculously inefficient..... wooptie doo.. heh
