I have a 2.4 ghz celery processor also known as a Celeron
known for it's OC'ing ability since it's built on the same Northwood core as higher end P4's
it's mounted on a Socket 478, VIA P4PB400 Mobo
is there any way to lock PCI/AGP bus speeds on this Mobo?
because i can safely OC up to 2.91 ghz, but the PCI bus shoots up to 41 mhz, way too high, especially since VIA mobo's are infamous for their instability and risk of corruption at speeds of 40 mhz or higher.
Is there any way to lock up the PCI/AGP bus speeds? or will I have to buy a better OC'ing mobo?

and what do you think is the highest, but also the safest/most stable PCI bus speed? 36 mhz?

I got nothing but I'm gonna keep my eyes on this thread as I'm running the same chip.

the pci/agp freq. also affects your ide too. When I had my dfi without the pci/agp lock, the most I could take it too was somtin like 75/38 then Id would get harddrive errors. I read somewhere that the highest pci recommended is like 36mhz.

If the pci/agp lock setting isnt in your bios or have some jumper for it, then you cant lock it. If ya wana go higher trash it & get sometin like an asus.

Yeah.. ~40Mhz is about the limit for any PCI bus that runs well overclocked...

You won't find a jumper to lock the PCI bus.. It won't be a toggle in the bios, you'll just have the ability to adjust the PCI/AGP frequency.. could possibly be in a bios update.. if not, you'll have to buy a new motherboard. :???:

any suggestions for a good mobo that will lock PCI/AGP bus speeds?

I think most here will agree abit/asus mobos are about the best.

cuz I might upgrade to AMD 64 3200+ soon

Any board based on an NForce chipset will have a pci-lock.

The MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum S939 NForce3 Ultra board has been getting good results as far as overclocking goes...

haha
is that the one you have?
in your sig it says you OC'ed to 2.7 ghz
are you using the stock fan or what fan are you using to get the CPU to be stable at that speed?

Silenze is using the xp-120 fan as far as how he got it stable, I think he messed with the memory timings .

Yep.. Thermalright XP-120 with a 120mm fan rated for 80CFM.. just put some Arctic Silver 5 in there today too..

Cpu default is 2.4Ghz.. 200Mhz FSB, just have it at 235Mhz FSB with the mulitplier dropped .5 from 12 to 11.5, and the DDR set to run at "166" (5/6 of the frontside bus).. which makes it about at it's specifications.. 8)

I have the first version of the K8N Neo Platinum (socket 754)
