Hi ,

I recently bought a V-Stream XPERT DTV DVB-T PCI Digital TV PCI Card , so i could record films from TV and burn them to DVD using my Sony DVD RW DW-D23A.

Anyway my problem is that the software that came with the Digital TV Card , when you get to the step of choosing the device to burn the DVD , my DVD Writer isnt there because i dont think its supported by the software.

The files that the TV card saves when i record a film are really big , for instance i recorded " Me Myself & Irene " the other night and the file size was 4.26Gb , the file format when right clicked says ( mpeg ) and has a Windows Media Player icon over it . I have 100 Ritek 4.7Gb DVD -R discs but when i try and burn this file to DVD it says it cant burn a file any bigger than 4.2Gb . ??

Is there and good Freeware software available to reduce this file in size or burning software , or even software thats worth paying for ?

I haven't seen any decent software included with any TV-card so far.
There's no easy solution, what I do is the following:
VirtualVCR for recording from tv in PICVIDEO MJPEG format, if you want to burn it dvd, use the dvd standard: 720*480 NTSC 720*576 PAL. Set quality to 17 or 18 for best results, count on at least 2 gb an hour.
Use tmpeg to convert it to mpeg2, author it and burn it.

2 and a half hours on one dvd is max at decent quality. If you want more:

1 get a divx player
2 use a smaller resolution
3 turn down the mpeg 2 bitrate
Recording into mpeg2 right away sucks, because of usual sync probs and the inability of mpeg to be decently editted (commercials for example).
For editing you use virtualdub ofcourse.

Any more questions just pm me.
