hmmm, just started overclocking so only bumped it a bit, but before i go to much further i was wondering what sort of cooling u guys would recommend. the three sinks listed below are what im looking at, all will be lapped to a mirror finish and have a healthy dose of AS5. of the three listed what would u recommend and why?
Thermalright XP 90C
Thermalright XP-120
Aerocool HT101 (can get a really good price but if its crap and i burn my chip saving 50 bucks now doesnt make sence)
take in mind i am running a P4 (leave it alone, it does the job:P) and live in australia so availability to vertain products aint the best. well, thx for any advice.

If you're going for low noise and decent cooling, the XP-120. You can get real quiet 120mm fans that still flow a good amount of air. Check Thermalright's info on the XP-120 though because it fits a limited number of motherboards.
If you're going for moderate to extreme overclocking however you'd be better to choose the XP-90 or 90c and a mid to high level performance fan.

i like the idea of the 90C except for the weight
The XP-90-C weighs in at 690g without a fan installed, with a fan, the XP-90C weighs approximately 810g.
i understand it does come with a support bracket but having close to a kilo hanging off a few screws worries me...

XP-90 C all the way... smaller than the 120, cools better..
It's not very heavy compared to a lot of coolers out there.. and it's not very tall, so it doesn't have much leverage on the board anyway..

Did you notice in that link that the XP-90 aluminum version is nearly as efficient as the XP-90C? And typically half the price too.

ok narrowed it down to 2...
the XP - 90 - C $95
and the XP -90 $75
price wise the XP90 is the winner, however it does need an additional mounting bracket for the LGA775. bracket costs about $10. XP90 is the way im leaning. its lighter, bit cheaper and i cant see an amazing advantage in the 90C....

Those are some stiff prices GriMo.
Here in the states the 90 goes for around $25 and the 90c just under $50. That should convert to roughly $32 and $64 AUD. You must be paying a premium in shipping or taxes?

No, but I've personally compared the XP-120 and the XP-90C... so I'm speaking from experience, I haven't used an XP-90Al..
Can't imagine there being a huge difference but I'd get the copper one myself, Thermalright nostalgia.

Cross-referencing multiple reviews is always the best idea.. might want to see if the XP90-Al would work since it's cheaper.. really up to you..
Some are uneasy about mounting over 1 lbs around their ZIF socket.. I've mounted heavier...
Some are confident that the copper version isn't worth the money over the alminum.. I've never tried an XP90 Aluminum.. I know the Copper rocks, though.

I don't think there's any doubt the 90c is better at cooling than the 90 aluminum. And since there's not nearly as big a difference between costs for you GriMo I'd go with the copper.

Im half deaf .Rock music . Guns, High strung 2 cycle racing engines etc etc. But i can hear my 10.500 BTU Wall unit A.C 6 feet away i have a Panaflow high speed 120.mm38mm less than 3 feet away at 114 CFM and i cant hear it "The A.C unit is louder" and is mounted on the clear side cover "fan adaptor 120mm to 80mm and is facing me since my box sits sideway. im debating on the XP120 OR XP90 . but i dont like the idea of pushing over capacitors to make the XP120 fit. i prob go with XP90 aluminum and a good Panaflow or Delta 92mm and well make up for more than the copper version XP90C with a lower speed fan . EVEN a full blast 80mm dont bother me as a CPU fan "but they do if mounted as case fans" so i turn them down just enough that i dont hear them but yet they are pumping far more air than those silly quiet "80mm low speed" <--useless. The trick with 80mm is get a high speed 1 and just adjust it to were you bearly hear them. I like the copper version XP90C . how ever it needs a serius weight diet. Im going to get a high speed and a Medium speed 92mm Panaflow and a Delta i well post what i think noise wise. i well remind you this much, most cases well act as a muffler so CPU fan noise level are not super critical "case fans are a difrent animal" . you cant go wrong with a XP90 Alum and a medium or High speed 92mm38mm Panaflow Fan. both Panaflow and Delta are the Rolls Royce of Fans. read up on the Delta 3 BLADE fan this are great low and medium CPU fans. all 3 of this HS are the best money can buy i think for AIR. How ever before i go check this heat sink out = Alpha Pal 8150 "BUT who in the hell sells it? .
