Like playafly187 said. If one wants silence, he would go with Zalman Coolers. But if one wants extreme cooling, he'd better go with (for CPU Cooling) Thermaltake Bigtyphoon, CoolerMaster Hyper 6+ or similar.

Altough, for video cards, I had the Zalman VF700Cu and it cooled down my GPU for 85C on load (using stock fan) to 55C Max!!!

So...for Video Cards...I still vote for Zalman, especially the VF700Cu and the new VF900Cu.

...Although there is always that Sytrin KuForce VF1 that FunkZ just reviewed, slightly outperformed even the new Zalman VF900Cu and according to FunkZ was plenty quiet.

Its been a while.. and monster heatpipe coolers are becoming must haves for air cooling ;)

the BigTypoon still ranks up there..

TuniqTower, sonic tower and the sythe ninja are the monster CPU coolers to have right now..

sythe ninja for low speed scilent cooling.
TuniqTower with powerfull fans for all out performance :P

I know this thread is dead but I hope you guys don't mind if I just say that i really like Zalman. I have a cpu cooler CNPS9500 and it cools really great. At idle I have temp below 30 C and at full load I am aways below 40 (not overclocked) and still very silent

Whats the difference between 9700 and 8700? the size or speed or?

Size and cooling ability I believe. The 9700 is upright and the fan points towards the rear exhaust, the 8700 is pointed more like a VGA cooler, with the fan pointing towards the side.

The 9700 is the "next step up" from the 8700

Also its a sweet dark finish & has a green led light on the fan. 8)
