I have a problem with some generic ram I bought from emartbuy.com It is a stick of PC3200 1Ghz DDR. I installed on an 478 socket P4 1.6Ghz Abit VT7 mobo with justpc case and 450w psu. I used fx5200le and also tried mx200 Geforce 2. I clears cmos. I tried to use some netlist pc3200U (what is the U for?) and still no go. I tried my generic ram in place of the netlist ram w/ no change. I tried I did a barebones boot up with cpu, mobo, hdd, VC and ram with no luck. It use PT800 VIA chipset. When I boot it up the KB blinks once. Every thing seems to turn on except the monitor. Does anyone have any ideas? Could the cpu not be fast enough? If so shouldn't the generic ram work in place of the netlist (could the pc3200U be an issue?) Here are specs for VT7 mobo: http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/products.php?categories=1&model=162

If you tried another stick of memory and get the same result, why do you think it's a problem with the memory? You also say you tried another video card and you say the system is getting power, fans turn on, keyboard lights, etc. just no POST. Can you test the motherboard or CPU in another machine?

I am thinking that my willamette core is the problem... In the manual it mentions and at the website calls for a northwood core. Thats OK, I plan to buy a northwood in the future anyway. I just thought that as long as the socket was the same that most cpu's could be used.

Isn't the Williamette a Socket 423 core and the VT7 is a Socket 478 board?

This P4 is used from a 845WN Intel board. I got it in '01. It is for sure a 478. And also, I got word from tech support, and they said that willamette core was unsupported. I appreciate it.
