Vantec Nexus 205. The color is a little lighter silver than my case, makes it look nearly white in photos. Maybe I need to repaint the case to match the controller.

The Hydrocool is cooling the CPU and GPU. The way I've got the GPU plumbed, it's real rard to see how it connects to the vid card.................

The tube connectors on the block can rotate. The one on the back of the block is pointing towards the rear of the case and the hose is going out the case. The connector on the front of the block is connected to the hose coming from the CPU. There is a hose running in front of the GPU hose connectors (Line in for the CPU) so the GPU connectors are real hard to see..... 8)

Beemer

I agree - very clean, the only thing I dont like is how the ATX power connector is in the middle of your motherboard - nothing you can do about that, just wonder why Abit did it that way.

the IC7-Max3 is actually laid out very well. the problem with Abit layouts usually occurs on their AMD platforms, but not so much on the Intel platforms. the reason for this??? i have no idea, but it's something i've seen alot of

Beemer

I have an Abit AMD board (AT7-Max2) that is laid out well - no power connector in the middle of the board. I also have the IC7-Max3 and it is laid out quite well.

I guess it isn't really a laptop cause there's no battery.

The box is a West America Custom Shipping Case, built to my specified dimensions. The rest was done from scratch, and was quite difficult to plan out.
I never really finished it, though I still plan to. I don't know why I photographed it with the flat cables on, but rest assured, I have some nice round ones in there. The pictures were taken almost a year ago. Those silly rubber channels on the side obviously needed a bit more polish, too. It weighs just over 35lbs, so the shoulder strap is a must for anything more than a hallway or flight of stairs. The system sits on that removable tray. The hard drives are not hard-mounted. I originally modded a cheap PSU to have a 3-outlet surge strip sticking out of it for plugging in the monitor inside the case along with anything else that might need plugging in, but the psu was a piece of junk, so I just use it for a surge strip in my room now.
Specs:
Viewsonic 18"
Ahtlon XP-M 2500+ w/ Thermaltake Slim Volcano 10
(2088mhz - 167x12.5)
Asus A7V333
512 run of the mill PC2700
Dual Maxtor 40gb - RAID 0
Visiontek Ti 4600
Enermax 450w

I'm putting in a Gigabyte GA-7NNXP so I can have a second SATA RAID array, a better FSB than 167, and a few more multiplier options. The voltages on the Gigabyte are, I'm told, very stable.
I'll be getting an Aerocool DP-102 in the next couple days, though I haven't decided what fans to use on it, maybe a couple of those aluminum-bodied Aerocool ones.
I also plan to get two 36gb Raptors for my OS and Apps.
A gig of BH-5 would be nice, but thus far hasn't been in the budget.
Hope you guys like it.

that looks very sweet. although, i think you need to paint the LCD (or rip it from it's casing). that should give it a more "modded/complete" look

I like your case man, that clean black look is nice. I'm a big fan of clean looks. :) If I were to make a suggestion I would say stealth that new drive, so you don't have it marring the finish. Have an extra faceplate sitting around?

playafly187
10-06-2004, 09:02 PM
hey, thanks for the comments.

eh, actually, it looks worse in the picture than it really it. in person, it blends in nicely.

yeah, the whole purpose of that case review was to do something nice, simple and clean. the only other thing i will be adding is a VFD (the one silenze just reviewed, thanks!). i MIGHT add a side panel with a window, but im still debating that...

now i must decide what bay to put the VFD it in... top and move the cd drive? heh

Caj Darkmoon
10-06-2004, 09:14 PM
I'd go lower down, seems like it would look more balanced that way. And even if it looks good in real life, thats a huge 'stealth me' candidate, and its not a hard job.

silenze
10-07-2004, 12:00 AM
I agree.. looking at it, it would look best in the lowest 5.25" bay.. that's going to look nice. :)

*can't wait to see all his stuff in the new case comin' for review*

thought; new case has a door, I have a fan controller, with knobs, and LED's... hm..

Caj Darkmoon
10-07-2004, 03:56 PM
So here's a 4 pic log of the cutout I did on my case side. I haven't put plexi in it yet, mostly because I'm lazy. Other mods include some blue LED's in my mouse, changing the LED's in my keyboard to blue, and a window in my CDRom.

cool, nice job. :)

I like the shape..

Caj Darkmoon
10-07-2004, 04:10 PM
Yeah, so do I. It looks oddly like the Star Trek symbol thinger, but that's not what I was going for. I just wanted something that looked cool, and had that random idea. It's not square, it looks nice, and it fits around the indented side handle, which were all rerquirements.

playafly187
10-07-2004, 04:10 PM

You should use the reinforced cut off wheels, there not as bad to break.

Caj Darkmoon

Bluuuuue. :)

You know what would look really sweet on that case?

If you frosted the outsides of the window. Take sandpaper and rough it up around the edges, so it looks like frost. It'd look freaking awesome.

undergroundtech
10-08-2004, 10:14 AM

KryoNexus
10-08-2004, 10:31 AM
agreed.

silenze
10-08-2004, 11:27 AM
That was cause of the way the wires dangled, the other case sectioned off the top part for the power supply and 5.25" bays and they all went through a hole so it was a pain... hehe..

Bluuuuue. :D

Hmm... that's not a bad idea.. I still have a blue 'lazer led', as if there isn't enough blue already lol

there is a uv cathode above the window too, makes for the nice effect :D

well didnt really like the pc60 and didnt want to let the centurion go to waste since i put so much time cutting holes in it, so i reverted back to it. made extension cables for the four 120mm fans (which took a long while) to reach the front fan controller, and also ripped a hdd rack out of the pc60, drilled some holes and mounted it as you see below (to aid in cooling of course, since they got really hot when mounted in the top of the case with no airflow.

not really tired of it... it needs a larger case or better component placement i suppose. plus i want something that is simple and maintenance free for now (with school and all in full swing)

Not the prettiest thing on earth but it ran Ubuntu fine until about 20 minutes ago. I think the CRT just died. Anyways, I changed it a bit, now it looks more like a cube than the Teen Titan Tower, but it isn't worth any more pictures. :)

Nice case Bio-Hazard. We have the same Samsung 19" monitor *i love that thing* I'll have to take pics of my comp and post them up. I'm running MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum, 2GB OCZ 3-3-3-8 PC4200 RAM, ~1TB of HD space which included a 74GB WD Raptor and 3 320GIG WD SATA drives, a AMD 64 4000+ CPU and a XTX NVIDIA 7800 256MB GPU all powered by a 500W Rosewill PSU.

http://www.enigmachine.com/images/WorstCaseScenario-back.jpg :barf:

Stuffed with older crap: PIII 550 Mhz, 256 Megs SDRAM, 3DFx Voodoo 3000, Creative Soundblaster, random ethernet card, WD 10 gig HD and a noisy old 180 W tsunami power supply.

Working on better stuff now (lexan & black grilles, overclocked 9800 Pro, G15 & G7 devices :) ), should be able to show it in a couple of weeks...

Anyway, so it's ugly! But it is at ;east a fairly impressive mod! 8)

Seeing some of these cases makes mine look...well, ugh.
Here is some of my stuff

My case in full swing
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/1503/picture3fs.jpg

Upgraded from two switches to four and a push button. I also moved the LED feet panel to the front for easier access. It was originally taking up a PCI slot.

from left->right
[left LED power switch],[LED feet power switch],[LED feet flash changer push button],[cold cathode power switch],[right LED power switch]

Cold Cathode sound response
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/2549/img36596wz.jpg

I had the enlarge the hole in the bottom of my computer to make room for the fan I wrongly ordered. This is a SilentWheel.
http://img506.imageshack.us/img506/6626/img36620bz.jpg

Also in the picture above, I turned the hard drives around so that the power cables and IDE cables are out of the way of the air flow.

I have most of the wires pretty well hidden. At least with the case door closed. All custom sleaving (looks like [smilie=5butthead.gif] ). I have yet to make that door go wireless, but it shouldn't be too hard. By wireless, I mean that when I take off the case door, I don't drag any wires out with it, and of course the fan will stop working, and then when I put the door back on, the fan works again.
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/9960/picture0027bq.jpg

OH NOeS! NOW LOOK AT THE MESS YOU MADE! (a picture of all the wiring I have done that goes on behind the front panel). I one day wish to be an electrical engineer, I think this is a good start, eh?
Believe it or not, everything in here is organized. I have most of the stuff hot-glued down, so that putting the front panel back on is easy. yes, those are my toes. [smilie=icon_eek.gif]
http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/6840/img36630vc.jpg

Other things that I did:

I replaced all six LEDs on the front with 89 cent super bright 12-volt ones (from BestHongKong.com  )

I have yet to reconnect the thermistor (electronic temperature gauge), which is why the display currently reads "L" for "Loser"

I also need to make some custom molds for the LED feet, which currently do not allow enough room in between the floor and the fan to provide enough air intake for the SilentWheel. For now, I have my whole case propped up on "Peanuts: A Golden Celebration", "The Guinness Book of World Records 2004", "The Guinness Book of World Records 2002", "125,000 clip arts images", and a stamp collection (my mothers, btw). [smilie=sign13.gif] Any input on how I should go about to do this would be great. I am using some cheap plastic LED feet on the bottom right now.

RadioShack has some neat modding stuff, believe it or not.
Pretty basic things, compared to some of the mods you guys are doing. I made the hole in the bottom using an hammer and a punch to start it with and then some $14 left curve pin-snips.

I still have some more things to do, will update later!

upd
11-28-2006, 06:08 PM
Well shoot. I'm sorry I killed this thread :eat this: . Here. Let me post an update.

Motherboard: Giga-Byte GA-G1975X
Processor: Intel Pentium D 840 Dual-Core, running at 3.31GHz
Memory: OCZ PC5400 512MBx2 Dual Channel
Graphics Card: Sapphire Radeon X1800 GTO2 Limited Edition (512MB GDDR3)
Power supply: Ultra X-Connect 2 550W with blue UV sides

Thats about it. Now the fun stuff. You have got to see this motherboard, it is way too cool...

I have finally found a way to make the fan on the bottom usable by taking my case off the ground. Funny story, I got some curtain rod ends and they fit perfectly in the LED case feet. Spray-painted them a nice shiny silver.
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/833/picture001bw9.jpg
http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/7884/picture002oi2.jpg

Added a Zalman 6-channel fan controller.

Omg. Wire organization is tough in a case this small. xD Looks really, really bad.
http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/2928/picture005fv7.jpg

There is no such thing as too many lights. Until the point when you add just one more and it doesn't make a difference (not there yet :D)
http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/1496/picture006ht0.jpg
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/9821/picture007lf1.jpg

Graphics card
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/7231/picture008pl4.jpg

The power supply is neat. It has some crazy titanium gloss finish on it that is super duper shiny all the way around, and you must handle with caution or you'll get super duper finger prints on it.
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/9840/picture009xl8.jpg

This is my wireless door. I didn't want to have to deal with cross-connections in the wiring (which every power supply protects against, I just don't like it when my computer doesn't turn on because of one, it's a very scary feeling) so I couldn't make it completely wireless. BUT, I can now take the side panel off and throw it clear across my room without taking the computer case with it. :P I just used a simple two-pin connector that I stole from the temp-gauge on the front.
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/4861/picture014zn6.jpg

A cool picture, looking up towards the DVD-ROM burner.
http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/9346/picture020bs1.jpg

The biggest feature on the motherboard are the unique Twin Turbo's sitting on the board, a couple of plastic, translucent blue vortex tubes that take heat from the RAM (towards the bottom of the photo), the Northbridge chipset (on the left vortex, the big gold heatsink) whose heatsink is designed to fit inside the plastic tube, and the area around the CPU and shove it out the back of the computer (in the next photo). Tests have shown to drop CPU temps and general computer temps by 3-5 degrees C, which is mighty good.
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/9402/picture010nz7.jpg
http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/4834/picture017jl3.jpg

I stuck another small (I think a 92mm) fan that I took from a retarded CPU cooler. The thing is freaking loud when turned up all the way so I attached one of those Zalman things that has a giant resistor on it, making the fan spin slower. Attached it to the controller. Stuck it on top of the 120mm in the bottom of my case, so my graphics card is chillin'. Literally.

No, my mobo does NOT sound like a jet plane taking off all the time, just on boot up when the graphics card whirs a spurs ridiculously.

I took the previous 80mm fans that were on my side panel and case top and stuck them up front where the hard drive would normally be. Replaced them with some crystal clear ones. They are the stock ones, came with the case, they are way too loud running full speed also.

Yeah, I think it turned out OK. I didn't use the best kind of paint, but I did spend a good deal of time covering up spots that didn't need to be painted. I used model car spray paint, and there are a few spots where components have scratched some of it off

I know I need a new camera!

Changes made:
Moved 250 side fan to the outside of case giving more room for the Ultra 120 extreme.
Moved all three hard drives into the 5.25 bays.
After removing the hard drives I lost space for my floppy. So instead of completly removing the floppy I moved it down to the statndard locations for the hard drive between the video cards. Since I do not use my floppy (like most of us) all the time i don't mind the fact I have to remove the side of the case to use it.
