So I managed to lose the fan mounting brackets for my XP90. Being the sheer genius (scarcasm) that I am, I decided to come up with another way to mount the fan.

Thats right, hair scrunchie things. Works well, aside from the fact that the fan sags a bit and does not sit centered on the heatsink. I left it like this for a while until today when swapping out some memory, I decided to fix it. Notice the gap highlighted in white in the photo above.

The fix was easy enough... slide the fan back up in place where it should be... then I took a plastic knife, cut an inch long piece from the end of it, and wedged it between the bottom fins. This way, the fan rests on it and is held properly in place.

Woot, ghetto modding at its finest! :lol: :lol: :lol:

LOL, I started reading and was just going to say, this should be called the "Ghetto Mods" section instead of Other. :lol:

Didn't the heatsink come with several sets of clips? Couldn't you bend one of the other sets slightly to fit the 92mm fan? Or don't you have any of them?

Erm, come to think of it... what happened to your water cooling?

lol

cant seem to find any of the clips, but i do remember the ones that i did have didnt fit well. they were designed to hold the fan via the bottom lip. but, with this aluminum fan, there is no bottom lip, so i had to bend them to fit over the top, which was a bit tough.

the watercooling is in the closet for now. with school and all, i decided to go back to air cooling. less to worry about, no real maintenance, etc. plus, i wasnt happy with the way i routed the tubing and wanted to redo it at some point down the road. so that will be a project for another time *perhaps thanksgiving break*

Haha, I think if your heatsink is hot enough to melt rubber and nylon you've got more problems to worry about then longevity of the fan "brackets". :lol:

I don't think my XP-90 ever even gets above body temperature.

50C = 122F
60C = 140F

Rubber doesn't melt til like 350° F or over... I think it's safe
:lol:
