CoolerMaster has been sponsoring reviews and giveaways here at OCIA.net for several years now and we are pleased to be working with them again on what is easily the biggest giveaway news in site history. Each month this year, Coolermaster will be sponsoring a different giveaway here in the OCIA.net forums just for you guys! CoolerMaster is committed to giving back to the community as shown here by their efforts and generosity. Please take a few minutes to browse their site and check out their latest product line.
February's contest will be a bit different than most we have done here in the past. First, we will be giving away three prizes!
The grand prize winner will receive a CoolerMaster Real Power 550w Power Supply (http://www.coolermaster.com/index.php?LT=english&Language_s=2&url_place=product&p_serial=RS-550-ACLY&other_title=RS-550-ACLYReal%20Power%20550)!
http://www.ocia.net/contests/realpower.jpg
The first runner up will get their choice of either a CoolerMaster Jet 4 (http://www.coolermaster.com/index.php?LT=english&Language_s=2&url_place=product&ftype=&p_serial=ICB-V83&other_title=0) or Jet 7 (http://www.coolermaster.com/index.php?LT=english&Language_s=2&url_place=product&ftype=&p_serial=ACB-V83&other_title=0) heatsink, with the second runner up receiving the remaining heatsink.
http://www.ocia.net/contests/jet4.jpghttp://www.ocia.net/contests/jet7.jpg
As mentioned above, this contest will be a bit different from most. First, you must be a registered member in the OCIA.net Forums. If you are not already a member, you can register for free by Clicking Here (http://forums.ocia.net/profile.php?mode=register&sid=4239dcb0e62b6c04d3dad818846093d3).
For this contest, we want to hear from YOU. How many times have you been led to a forum contest only to find out that entry is reserved for photoshop pros or case modding kings? I know I have certainly fallen victim to these type of contests, which are based more on skill than luck of the draw. This is where you come in. We want to hear your best and most original contest/giveaway ideas that you would like to see used in future promotions here at OCIA.net
In order to keep things fair, we must request that you only submit your two best ideas. Simply post your ideas here in this thread for everyone to see. Once you have posted your idea, send an email with your complete name, forum name, email address and shipping address to contest2@ocia.net and you are all set! The contest will begin on February 7, 2006 and will remain open until February 28, 2006 at Noon, CST.
You must be 13 years or older to enter, as per our forum rules. You may only submit two ideas for this contest. Winning entries will be decided upon by OCIA.net staff at the end of the contest. Do note that it is extremely important for you to submit a valid email address and shipping address. Once the winners have been chosen, their shipping information will be passed along to CoolerMaster for prize shipment. Shipping will be paid by CoolerMaster to winners in the United States, Canada and Mexico only (meaning this contest is only open to participants in these areas) . All email addresses will be sent to CoolerMaster for inclusion in their Newsletter and will then be deleted from the OCIA.net mail box. All entry ideas are eligible as future contest ideas. OCIA.net staff and immediate family members are not eligible for entry.

I've definitely been excited to see a contest for a great item before, only to find out it requires a great amount of skill (and possibly money) to win. Glad to see you guys at OCIA are asking the community about this issue.
My idea would be a contest of who could draw the most creative/funniest picture in MSPaint, that's right good old Paint. Of course there'd probably be some kind of guideline to keep it technology related or even CoolerMaster related.
My friend and I have been making hilarious drawings in Paint lately, and we've had a lot of fun with it.

This is gunna be good.
Best Burning something Pic? All you really need is matches...And who doesnt like fire?!
Best joke / compliment? Could be good.
IE: Something like Momma jokes...im guessing no racist jokes...maybe some good old things like Cheesiest pickup lines.

Two different contests:
1) Best Non-Computer Hardware Review
People must submit a review of an item that is not computer-related. Review must include Overview, Benchmarks, and Conclusion. An example is: I am reviewing the Sunbeam Toasty Toaster[include link to product page]. Overview: This particular model comes with two slots, which are the correct dimensions for toast, bagels, etc.... Benchmarks could be how fast it toasts compared to your neighbors toaster. If that's too much work, then just post a picture of an item in this forum, and the contest is for people to write a review of the item based solely on what they see.
2) Time to fry
Take a processor OCIA has laying around. Have a contest where people guess how long it would take it to fry itself if it had no heatsink at all. Then fry the processor and time it!

I am using one and I agree, superb PSU. Good luck everyone.
1) I know this won't be useful till christmas but my idea would be to take christmas carols and incorporate a computer theme into them.
2) Best cable management.

banner design /wallpaper designing , craziest things done to a case / or modifications done to computer parts . these would be my suggestions

I like the idea of frying the processor, that sounds like fun! But as far as my ideas go, I would say:
1. A contest to see who could get the lowest score on the 3DMark05 system diagnostic test, because whoever had the lowest score would be the person who would need the prize the most
or
2. OCIA.net Haiku Contest
Best Haiku about modding, overclocking, etc. wins!
Example:
Pure overclock joy,
Purchase an FX-60,
You are set my friend.
-or-
Dual-core madness,
Has taken hold of the net.
Best clock that 'mutha!
-or-
SLI goodness,
means crazy scores on 3Ds.
Seriously though.
-or-
939 rocked hard.
But with AM2 nearing,
Will you keep rocking?

Hey guys, another awesome contest!
Well anyway, the idea for a contest thing is going to be tough, and I doubt I'll win but I'll give it a shot anyway.
My first Idea would be to
1.) See who could come up with the best slogan for ocia.net to use.
(For bonus points, I guess the contestant could even make a banner of some sort displaying the message. Either real or computer drawn.)
~or~
2.) Find (or take) a picture of what you think is the worst thing you could possibly do to torture a computer and still have it run.
For example, purposely shorting out wires and other things in your computer, then turning it on and have it spark like crazy, then un shorting it only to find it still works! :eat this:
Or throwing your computer in a pool only to find it working underwater! (just don’t hurt yourself  )

Not to bash your ideas...just comments.
#1 sounds like fun but some people arent Pro's with PhotoShop like I. And Pay even said it up top something that doesnt require mad skills.
#2 My computer happens to be fast idk about yours...rofl.

When I saw them the first ideea was - Wow! they look way too good to stay inside- so:
1. A case mod that would include the heatsink(s) and make the case look like a jetplane or something similar.
2. Also a case mod that would make the case look like a car used to break speed records.
A nice addition could be a blue light for the flame effect.
Maybe it's not original but that was the picture I imagined when I saw them.
I cannot participate to the contest since I don't live in any area specified in the rules but I had to share my thoughts...

ok, here are my ideas:
first, a type of wikirace, where a person has to document the shortest route from x to y. to make it difficult of course there'd be rules like "what links to here" pages aren't allowed. you can look at them, but not use them. same with talk pages, category pages and the like... first person to submit the shortest results wins.
second, see who can find a geological feature that closely resembles something, anything really, in google earth. they'd have to be obscure and not well known, i.e. you can't just google "google earth resembles" or anything like that. most accurate/funny/original resemblance wins.

Ok here are my thoughts:
1. I think a cool contest would be where you give like 4 images and people can only use MSpaint and they have to make a story based on the picture they created.
2. riddles. Make up a series of riddles on a new page and the person is given a set amount of time to solve all the riddles and whoever gets the most right in the fastest time wins.

This looks like it's going to be a great contest. Thanks OCIA.net & CoolerMaster. Here are my ideas:
1. Edit about 5 seconds of a .wav file or .mp3 file and have us guess the title and artist solely based on those 5 seconds. Randomly pick 3 winners if more than 3 people get the answer correct. If nobody gets the answer correct, whoever gets the title or artist.
2. Post a pic of your work area with a yourself included holding a sign that says " CoolerMaster & OCIA.net February Contest" - also it would be cool if you can have OCIA.net forums up on your monitor and perhaps display a CoolerMaster product.

I always like the "find the facts/treasurehunt/research the sponsers products" type contests.
They are more work for the judges (they have to check the potenial winners answers, and if wrong, draw again), but they do encourge visiting the sponsers site, and learning about their products, and require more skill (not alot) than saying "I want it" .

How about everyone tell their computer horror stories. The worst thing that ever happened etc.
i just did one the other day, was trying to be slick and remove both my hard drives at the same time, forgetting that the rails i use aren't screwed into the sides, they just sit in place, and while my computer was laying on its side, mobo face up, dropped my hard drive right on my mobo. now my mobo is messed up and wont boot normally, i have to go into the bios everytime i restart and then it will boot. shot myself in the foot for that one.
contest ideas.... most informative computing website? spreads the word of websites that really do have alot of information.
and ill get back to you about my second idea.

Two ideas for contests:
1. A tour of a hardware company in the US. Could be OCZ, or Corsair, etc.
2. A chance to work with the above company on naming a new product line, or perhaps designing a new HSF/product.

Haha, some people got some pretty darn funky ideas here
Here are mine:
1) The weirdest bug/glitch in a software that you ever saw
2) Who can dual boot mac/windows on a mac machine?!
4) Ok the last one wasn't too original so here's the real second one: Tell the funniest story that ever happened to you with a computer, like the time when you tried to explain how a computer works to a non-tech person who must have been the slowest person in the world.

1. Set up your computer somewhere in public and take a pic of you gaming on it. Has to be your full desktop rig not just a laptop somewhere.
2. Nerd action shots of people with no shame dressed up as starwars or some DND characters in public areas are always fun for everyone.

Cool!! Let me Try......
1) Take a picture of your workstation/ Gaming area (the whole desktop + table must..) .....and let the member/ judges vote for the best and the worst... like a) the most messy, b) the neatest, c) most wanted........something like that...
2) Post a picture of 2 computer parts or other objects and we have to come up with the most funnest phrase to match with the picture.....
What do you think??

2) "Guess the game/computer part/etc!"
Disguise a pic/screenshot of a game/computer part/etc. in various ways (IE: blurred, zoomed in, cropped, etc.) and have everyone guess where the pic/screenshot came from :) First one to guess wins, or take all winners and draw a final winner randomly ;)

1-I think the scavenger type of contest is nice as it offers a fun game that require some skill of searching but it's not easy enough so that everybody who has a bit of time would have an equal chance.
2-Gien to the fact that overclocking or modding all depend on the hardware or the skill. I think we can actually testing how creative a person is by doing a creative contest which the contest can consist of a set of household common items and then each participants will use these items to creative something unique/creative. This way, everyone can enter as the list of items will be commonly found in every household, and then the contest will be solely based on the creativity.
thanks for teh contest.

Here's my ideas
1) the most creative use of cd's containing software that you wouldn't otherwise install into your machine. could be used for almost anything as long as such don't wind up on the curb for trash collection before photos are taken and it's a photo submission and the photos be judged by a panel of 3 staff, to select the best 3 photos of the most creative.
2) the most creative advertising poster for OCIA and the sponsor of the contest, where both ocia and the sponsor must be on the same poster.

Reminds me of an old story, back when AOL used to send out CDs to everyone to try to get them to use their POS browser, a friend and I took the cd and hot-glued X-acto blades around the circumfrence of the cd. Not advisable, of course, but damned if it didn't make one fine ninja star!

some common sense and some creativity, it can be done, with such contests can occur periodically and can done right so that injury rate and seriousness of such are minimumized.

Well I have been to one contest Iwill never forget It was to Give away a 6800 back in its day. Well I read the rules and it was easy enough for me to figur out so I complied with the rules! The rules were simple the one who had the most unsam post would win well I should of won!!!! I had the most by far and the web master pickes some clown with very little post count and said he had replied thru PMsssssss Boy I was upset! And all the others who were in on it thought I should of also but the ol boy lost me and a few others after that contest.
But just picture it if a Honest web master Ran just a contest? Oh yea I rember now we also had to tell Why we wanted the 6800. I had the best reason I thought. I forget all of the details but I would bet money the post count would almost double. Just my thoughts any how there it is.
P.s I have forgot alot of the details but Iam pretty sure my post count was over a hundred.
Ill try to think of one more soon I hope.
also good luck everyone

I don't Post much on here but a contest does bring me out.
There are lots of good Ideas. I like the scavenger hunt one. as for what to do with all them unwanted CD one get in the mail and such I Have a Plan in motion now for a few years. I'm saving all mine to side the out house at camp with (shinny side out that is). One of these days I will get it done I think I have enough to do it now. Maybe a contest for who has the most computer working. I think I may win that one as I have a very large collection of them. Well good luck to all and I hpe to win.
Well, my ideas are:
#1 Who can invite more friends to join ocia.net! There will be a special post for each of us, having as subject our names, and there the new members invited by us will write for example :" Hi , i am a friend of Rico, he told me about ocia.net". The administrators will count the new users and to be sure there is no scam, confidentialy they check each new users IP address.
#2 Write a short poem, fiction story or song ,can be funny, or dramatic, in which obviously ocia.net and the “computer” are the main characters or life styles. In case of writing a song, than it will be posted and listening to all kinds of ocia.net songs I think would be very cool. And of course, the coolest "artist" will win.
Good luck to you all!

I really like Caption or naming contests. Such as the 'Name That Truck" contest from a while back. Or adding a caption to a funny computer pic or mod or something else.
Secondly, It may be neat for a "weird computer fact" contest. Post your weirdist/obsucre computer fact.

#1. Who is the most contagious: Have a screen shot of Norton,CA, or any spyware removal tool and who ever has the highest total of infections wins. Just don't upload anything or send me any attachments.
#2. Best Lan Party Photos (not photoshoped) example: drooling in your keyboard while you sleep at your rig, or snapping a photo of your buddy taken a wiz in his Bawls bottle because he doesn't want to leave while hes got the frag lead.

1: Post the funniest most unusual email/scam you have ever got (the ones from nigeria saying they need a certain amt of money or something to collect the money)
2: Build something using only certain things that everyone has around there house (ex. - q-tips, glue, tape, bawls glass) and whoever makes the most unique think wins
3: Dustiest computer. Whoever has the dustiest(not messiest) computer wins(people can make there cases messy, they cant really make it dusty, well they can but i don't think many people would go thru the prosess of doing that)
4: Building on the scavenger hunt idea, you could hide clues in old threads and the users have to find the first thread to find the first clue, then find out what thread you should go to after that, until you find the final thread and you p/m the admin the post #, thread #, and poster.

Here's an idea. Movie quotes. How many times have you quoted a funny movie line to make your friends laugh? Why is it funny?....because your buddy knows the line and from what movie and who said it.
Throw out a movie quote like, "Oh, yeah. Yeah, last season he was a pixie-dust spreader on the Tilt-O-Whirl. He thinks that maybe next year, He'll be guessing people's weight or barking for the Yak woman. You ever see her?"
What movie? Who said it? In what circumstances? All members with the correct answer will then be drawn from.

1. Sports Bracket Contest
Start off by choosing 16 people from the forums. Could be random among people who want to participate, could be based on post count during a time period, it's totally up to the contest organizer. After the contestants are chosen, set them up in a head-to-head elimination style bracket.

There are a lot of possible ways to eliminate people. It could be based on post count during a specific time period. It could be based on specific things being accomplished before your competitor. It could be based on accumulating points through posting. For example, every post could give you a 25% chance of getting a "goal", or something along those lines. That way, a "score" for each game in the bracket could be determined so people could be eliminated. The rules could be tweaked to make the results determined by anything from pure skill to pure luck, or anything in between.
This would also be a good way to keep interest in a contest over a period of time. You could have forum members place bets on the results of the bracket and have the person who gets it closest to correct win a secondary prize. It could boost participation and involvement in the community as well as create friendly rivalries.
The 2 halves of the bracket could even be chosen based on people's hardware preferences. At the start of the contest people could state whether they prefer AMD or Intel, or NVidia or ATI. Then representatives from each viewpoint could be chosen to see who gets forum bragging rights. The possibilities are endless.
2. Fantasy Build Contest
Another possible contest would be to outline a set of goals and possibly a budget for a dream computer to accomplish. The contestants would have to work within the rules to come up with a computer build that would accomplish the goals while staying within the allotted budget.
For example, the goal could be to build a computer suitable for watching widescreen movies and doing some moderate gaming. It could also be specified that it must be able to edit home video. The rules would specify which components MUST be covered under the budget, whatever it is set at. For the example here, the
rules would likely state that a widescreen monitor and operating system be included in the final build or the entry is invalid.
The contestants would then research pricing for each of their chosen components and put together a list of the best prices they can find for their fantasy build. Someone would then have to narrow it down to finalists, who the forum members could then vote for. This contest would inspire creativity and make the contestants put in a little elbow grease for their entry. It also doesn't disclude ANYONE because if they can get on the forum, they can spend a bit of time visiting online retailer sites to find prices. Also, this could very well incite more conversation about various different components and their effectiveness as people try to come up with the optimal build for accomplishing the goals of the contest.

Another month over and more great prizes are heading out the door! I first want to thank everyone for their participation. Without you, we would not be able to hold these monthly contests/giveaways. Second, a HUGE thanks to CoolerMaster for their continued support of OCIA.net
With that said, all that is left is to announce the winners! And here we go...
--------------------------------
The grand prize winner is: privatedonut21...
for his OCIA.net Haiku suggestion. We all remember doing these in high school and how much fun they could be, given a little bit of thought and creativity
1st runner up winner is: ROAR_Exodus...
for his "how many keyboard keys are in a jar?" suggestion. BTW, I'm now gladly accepting used keyboard keys. PM me if you have any to donate!
2nd runner up winner is: JAYBA420...
for his computer scavenger hunt idea. always wondered what to do with that tired, old hardware? photograph it for a contest!
-----------------------------------
Thanks again to everyone who entered and congrats. to the winners for this month. We will certainly see some of these ideas take shape in the coming months here at OCIA.net
And be sure to stick around, as the next CoolerMaster sponsored contest will be opening VERY soon

Sweet, this will be perfect for the build I've been planning. Once it's done, I'll let you guys know how it performs!
Also, I'd like to seriously thank OCIA for not only the sweet contests (not to mention the sweet prizes!) but also for being a great website! I have literally learned more about computer building and overclocking from reading both the articles and posts on the forums here than from any other source. Period. I love the community here, you guys are all great, and though I have only been a part of it for a short while, you can expect to be seeing a lot more of me!
