as far as rock goes, i love Disturbed and Godsmack. on the rap side of things, most all of the memphis rap is great ( Three 6 Mafia, Gangsta Blac, Playa Fly, etc etc)

how about you? what sort of music and artists do you enjoy?

Rush is my favorite group. May 26th in Nashville! Here I come!

Listen to Progressive Rock, Rock, Alternative, Techno(all genres)
Not much rap any more, and country, well it has to be a really good song.

I listen to a very broad range (everything but country really). I like Dave Matthews, Linkin Park, Evanescence, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, to name a few (I just looked at my recently played songs).

Rock: 1955-1980, especially 1966-1975 and Southern rock, with a smattering of songs since then; Blues: 1900-present; bebop jazz; much Motown and Stax; pre-1980ish country; some classical. Some death metal (go figure). Anything involving a Hammond organ. I liked rap until the members of NWA actually started believing they were part of the gangs they were rapping about. I have yet to understand the point of techno, unless that point is to have background noise while screwed up on ecstasy.

I know, I'm old.

There are so many different styles/variants of the "techno" category. I'm mainly into the trance type. Really good melody's usually no vocals but not repititious which is what most people think about "techno."

very true. the word 'techno' brings to mind idiotic teens at raves, poppin X, dancing with glo sticks and that repetative music over... and over... and over...

i agree trance is the best. some of it is actually soothing. i listen to it alot off of shoutcast (shoutcast.com (http://www.shoutcast.com)).

Fave artists/bands would have to include Van Halen, Sammy Hagar, Rush, Metallica(of course) and pretty much any other 80's metal band(except maybe Tesla)....actually...let me re-phrase that...DEFINITELY NOT Tesla...lol..remember seeing them open for 3 main bands in one summer...by the time they opened for Aerosmith, we were tired of em....actually fruited em off stage before they got 3 chords into their first song...lol...sorta feel bad for em, but hey...if ya suck, get off the stage!

Glad I don't have to worry about the RIAA breathing down my neck. The Canadian judicial system deemed it legal to share music online. The judge compared having a copy of songs on your pc and sharing them online to having a photocopier in a library right next to all that copyrighted, written material. Thus our ISP's don't have to reveal our personal information to the recording industry, and the recording industry doesn't have the right to snoop through my list of songs. How-ever, I do believe one should support the artists by buying their cd's.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you also have a tax on your CDRs?

Roadracer_4ever
05-26-2004, 03:23 PM
Yup, we pay tax on everything up here. I live in a province with provincial sales tax as well as that lovely GST so I pay 14% on top of everything I buy....not that that would really make up any amount of difference on how much money the recording industry potentially loses by people not buying cd's each year. And I'm pretty sure those tax dollars don't go to the recording industry either. I think the judicial system here simply wants to avoid such incindents as a young girl of 13 or 14 yrs of age getting sued for 10-20 grand simply because she has a couple of hundred songs on a hard drive. Where the courts would prosecute here, would be if someone were making illegal copies for re-sale and personal profit, selling them as "an original" copy. Simply sharing files would not be for profit by any means.

First Album every bought: LED Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy

First Concert: Rush - 2112

Favorite bands:

70's - Kiss
80's - Rush & Iron Maiden
90's - Alice In Chains - George Winston (What a contrast there)
00's - All the stuff I ever listened to. I lean towards the aggressive metal attitude, bl;ues (Robert Cray) as well as the Windham Hill artists as favorites. Rap - Not too much. Newer Pop Music - Not at all.

I really like the White Stripes music. I think it is a nice fresh sound that has roots in the blues.

Ordered from BMG yesterday:

Megadeth
The System Has Failed D154200

Judas Priest
Demolition D141303

Tori Amos
Tales Of A Librarian: A Tori Amos Collection (1 CD/1 DVD) D251676

Current iTunes collection is 295 songs, 19.9 hours, 1.11 GB, and all of it's legal. I trashed my downloaded music this last fall, because I decided that I didn't want to do it knowing that I shouldn't be. :) No, not because of the RIAA, but because I didn't think it was right.

Anyways, favorite bands are Kutless and Jars of Clay. You might know the second, but I doubt anyone knows the first. If you do, mad props.

Yeah he does the FF music. If you like it you should check out The Black Mages. They take the FF fight songs and play them in a rock theme they are pretty awesome. As for Ramstein(sp?) I dont care for em too much. I like to be able to understand that the singer is saying.
