Not that I was ever that big a fan of Alienware, I mean they made good computers but were way overpriced. But one thing that annoys me about this is that Dell thinks that this is going to make them "cooler" with the young gamer crowd?

Frankly, you're not a real gamer if you are playing on a Dell. That's just my opinion.

I just don't see how they can expect to become cooler by (almost certainly) ruining one of gamer's favorite companies?

I'd like to hear some other perspectives on this. Anyone have an opinion? Just chime in.

I LOVE Dells. I've never seen any computer made quite so well. I'm actually really excited about this. Maybe Alienware will come down in price. I'd love to see some $400 complete systems with the Alienware badge, with that screaming Intel power.

I don't think it will make even the slightest bit of difference in any way shape or form...

I know way more gamers that couldn't possibly even Stomach using a pre-built machine... than gamers who play on pre-built machines.

Infact, as far as I'm aware, I don't know a single gamer with a pre-built machine.

From my perspective, always having built my own, and being a complete hardware whore (see: signature), I have no clue how they even stay in business.

Actually, i think this was more the point i was going for. That point being; They Both Suck.

Well, that's the way I see it. Both are bad and I don't think it will affect hardcore gamers much, but I still have a voice in the back of my head that hates to see a smaller company get swallowed up that way.

And I have a deepseated resentment of Dell because of a PC I bought from them before I started with this custom built stuff. It was such a hassle because it came totally f**ked up, and the only reason it works now is because I totally took it apart and fixed it.

it dosn't effect me either way. Im not a fan of Dell systems and i would never buy an alienware computer outside of a laptop. I would much rather pick each part individualy and not have to worry about only being able to upgrade with some crappy propriatary part.

To be honest, their sales methods are so Dell-like, I kind of thought they were associated already.

I have to vote "no" because Dell needn't change a thing...A name that means "quality" to the uninformed, suckering people in with borderline false advertisement, then selling them a computer with generic parts for premium prices.

I may be wrong but I think dell had there intel day and then they had there AMD day and I would think that there customers has spoken!

Well, as far as Alienware quality goes, I do have a few friends who have them and they run games very well, I don't think the quality is quite up to par witha custom rig but it's not terrible. The only downside is that the Alienwares cost an arm and a leg. Dell is a low quality company, no doubt about it, because their customers are largely the uninformed general public and they don't need to have the best components. They just flash a few fancy graphics and some expensive sounding names and they make the sale.

You make a good point fastedie, another reason for the buyout could be for Dell to gain some credit with the largely pro AMD crowd that gamers make up. Dell has so staunchly supported Intel that to go back would be a shot to their credibility, so instead of doing so directly, they aquire a company that uses AMDs already and runs some of their products with AMDs.

Do you honestly think that Dell could ever gain any credit with computer enthusiasts...who ARE the pro-AMD crowd?

Around here...the name Dell is as synonymous with low quality as it is high quality with the general computer ignorant public.

But, having said all of that...Alienware does serve a purpose...not everyone has the balls to build their own rig. As I said above, my biggest problem is with the generic parts. If I built someone that wasn't a close friend a rig, it would probably be at least as expensive as an Alienware rig. But, it would have name brand parts.

Well, that's my point exactly. Dell is trying to gain credit but there is no way in hell that this is going to change the minds of the people they are aiming at attracting with this deal.

Haha, balls...
