maybe, but if gas prices keep going up, you'll see less and less V8's on the street.

also, Isaac Hutchinson had a Civic hatchback that would flat out smoke a brand new corvette. he was doin 120mph in 3rd gear. best of all.....he only had 20k into it, including all the styling products (granted, his wasn't all decked out with stickers and big wings)

might have. but someone who can afford a vet isn't going to worry about gas prices. and plus if they put as much money into it after purchasing the car like isaac did, i don't think there would any chance. i saw him run his acura when it was supposed to be fast at a drag strip, and needless to say i was not very impressed at all.

I love the sound of v8's with dual exhaust, and I love the sound of a big BOV....

If only imports would drop the FWD nonsense...

Friend here has an '88 4-door civic lx sleeper, 11.3's (turbo/intercooled).. friend Tim (co-worker) has '94 4-door civic NA (prelude H22A w/performance parts) runnin 13.2's... hehe

Yeah, I love the sound of old mustangs and cameros with dual exhaust. They sound fast and strong, not like someone wound up the rubberband in some ricer.

Have you heard a boosted 4 cylinder with a big down pipe and free flowing 3" exhaust with no catalytic converter? You'd be surprised how nice they can sound :D

that's why its nice to hear an '03 cobra, you get the deep grumble of the exhaust along with the whine from the supercharger hehe.

as far as the mpg goes, my car is a V8 and it gets 22/25 mpg. i know that the 4 bangers get around 30 but when they run 13s it might not be as high. when it all comes down to it though, i HATE FWD. just drives goofy in my opinion

A nice anecdote for you americans.

Jeep builds its Cherokees for the European market with different engines than for the American markets.

For only one reason:
Europeans drive faster.

Power is not speed.....

Ford SVT Lightning: $33,310.00 - supercharged, bigger pulley, free flowing exhaust, mid 12's..

I for one can speak from experience from riding and driving a turbo car and it sounds NOTHING like a typical four cylinder. Whether or not you can hear the turbo depends completely on the turbo setup; not ever turbo car has a loud turbo, and not ever non turbo car sounds like a weed whacker. Every car is very different and can in no way be compared to another in this sort of fashion.
And as for the Ram versus Lightning battle, I would choose the Ram strictly because if I am going to buy this car, I will definitely not leave it stock, and neither will 9 out of every 10 buyers of these trucks. Hennessey motorsports anyone? As for the stock ratings, Dodge has followed suit with the Ram in underrating the bejeesus out of both the ram srt10 as well as the viper. They are both rated at 500 hp. Both of these vehicles were put on dynos when they were BONE stock and laid down 575 to the wheels, which leads me to believe that it has north of 600hp at the crank. I would not doubt for a second that those quarter mile times are a bit off, since the ram has only been out for a short while, and the ford isnt out at all. Its a drivers race to say the least.

in your case, i believe you might be right, so far as companies like benz and bmw, etc are concerned. but i was referring to particular cars that have heavy aftermarket support, and that more often than not, people take advantage of this support. such cars consist of everything from a whored out crx to the svt vehicles and much more. as long as companies like hennessey motorsports and mugen are in business, a lot of performance cars will be bought on this basis

i just wish people would quit dressing up cavaliers, neons and sunfires (and the latest addition of saturns). just stop it already. if your car is a domestic car, don't make it look/sound like an import!!!

here's a thought: save up that $10,000 that you spent making your 96 cavalier look riced and instead put it toward a NEW car. 10g's will be a nice down payment on a 20-30g car.

I may be speaking from the same perspective as B16SOLNA, but...

Being car savvy has nothing to do with knowing a dirty Filter needs to be replaced with a clean one, that's common sense. That's what filters do, they're used everywhere, and in this case filter the elements that you don't necessarily want getting into the engine. :?

So... it wasn't a matter of whether she knew where it was located, that can be a little different on every car.. just that she couldn't comprehend a dirty Filter needing to be changed.

B16SOLNA

Kattikawn
05-14-2004, 03:31 PM
I was under the impression that that's exactly the reason most people take their car to an oil change shop, to let those that *do* know what's under the hood take care of that kind maintainance. It may be common sense to anyone who's dug around in there, but to someone else, especially a chick, it may as well be Greek being spoken. It's pretty elitist and condescending to call someone a dumbass over it. :x

B16SOLNA
05-14-2004, 07:57 PM
exactly............feel free to call me elitist and condescending all you like, but that further proves how much you didnt understand what i said. even those who know what goes on under the hood of a car sometimes take their own car to have the oil changed purely because they either dont want to do it or they ran out of time. but back to a point i have tried to make three times already, the knowledge of the inner workings of a car has nothing to do with what i was saying, instead, i was referring to the ignorance of how an air filter works......and before anyone flies off the handle at that, just remember how many different places an air filter is used in everyday life.

Except for the fact that she probably had no idea a car had a filter in it to begin with. I still don't agree, because a lot of things run through your mind when someone tells you something you have no idea about. As far as she probably knew, she was just there for an oil change, not for replacing filters.

Seriously, you honestly think the chick didn't know what the heck a filter does?

I know you're not going to be able to see it from my point of view, but I know several people who can.
