Not that I have anything resembling a life...just have better things to do than post 1000 consecutive times on the spam thread....several different times. That thread presently has nearly 30,000 posts....mostly from 4 or 5 guys.
They just ended a contest, and you had to have 25 relevent posts. The guys on the forum were debating whether he had 25 revelant posts out of all of those.
[30 minutes later....Frank is wondering what better things to do...]
Hmmm...like playing BFV....reading new posts on 3 forums and a dozen or so email groups four or five times a day....recording, mixing, producing music that pretty much no one but me and maybe a couple other people will hear, and the music sux anyway.....hmmmmm.....surfing for mod or O/C ideas......taking the 4 dogs out to urinate and deficate....sitting and dreading going to work.....finish reading the two books I have started (Sean Hannity's new book, and "Where the Birds Never Sing")....Watching "The Screen Savers", "Call for Help", or Fox News, taking the wife to eat Chinese or Mexican.....
Like I said, nothing that resembles a life. :)

I love my wireless mouse...BUT you have to make sure you have extra batteries around. They last about a month.
KryoNexus
04-30-2004, 09:21 AM
it depends for me. at my house, the matteries in my wireless mouse last about 4 months, cause i don't use the machine a whole lot. at work though where i am on my computer for AT LEAST 8 hours a day, the batteries will make it about a month, maybe month and a half
techniq
04-30-2004, 10:39 AM
thats what made the mx700 such a great mouse. Not only does it have the best sensor and trasmitter on the market, but its receiver doubles as a charger. The batteries usually only last a few days between charges, but as long as you throw it on the charger every other night, you'll never run into problems. Plus it uses NiMH batteries, so if your really in a pinch, just go steal some from your digital camera if you have one.

Personally, I like post counts, even though I am a noob at every forum I am registered to. But, I have been going to forums long enough to take post count "with a grain of salt".
In some other forums I frequent, more of a technical nature than this one, mostly the repair and/or modding of tube-type guitar amplifiers, post count is equated with technical experience.
I.E., you've got your local forum "gurus", with post counts in the many hundreds, or thousands:
Let's say that Joe Noob (noob to tube amp troubleshooting/repair, and noob to internet forums) comes along with a problem, and gets a couple of totally different answers. Who is he going to trust? Each answer is going to cost him bucks...which he obviously doesn't have, or he would have taken the amp to a tech already...and probably only one of them is going to actually help.
Does he trust the "guru" with post count of 2123 and member for a couple of years (who secretly has only been working on mostly his own 3 amps for those two years, and he was as noob as Joe when he joined the forum)? Keep in mind that this guru probably is going to be "amen'ed" by other guys who respect this "guru", and have post counts nearly as high as he has.
Or does he listen to a guy who happened to join the forum the day that Joe posted his problem, and his answer to Joe is his first post... unbeknowingst to Joe that this guy has been a tube amp tech for 25 years ...all Joe knows is that this guy has the same embarrassing nooby-style title that he has. And this guy's advice probably will be totally ignored if not criticized by the forum regulars...or he will be chided for something totally stupid, i.e. not giving the standard tube amp warning: "Warning, tube amplifiers contain high voltage that can KILL YOU........".
Unless the real tech gave advice that is much less expensive than the "guru" gave, Joe is going to listen to the "guru". And if the "guru's" advice didn't work, Joe probably will find another forum to take his problem to, since he didn't want to offend the "guru" by telling him how stupid his advice was, and he still questions the validity of the advice that a "fellow noob" gave him.
Administrators of a few of the forums I go to have eliminated post counts and titles, supposedly for this reason....though I suspect that at least one of them did it because the post counts of "gurus" had doubled or tripled his own.
But, having said this, I still like post counts, if for nothing else, to see what titles the administrator has come up with, or for threads like this one, where I can inflate my own post count. :)
Beemer
05-04-2004, 08:34 AM
Moral of the story: Post a lot so people will listen to you, but keep your post count below the administrators
-edit- oh, and when asking for help with a problem, dont just listen to the "guru"

Right now, between working a mix of evenings, nights and weekends, trying to find time to be on here gets limited. Added to that list my eldest sister was diagnosed with a condition called multiple malinoma, which is very similar to lukemia, and I'm spending a great deal of time researching it as well, to understand it.
As an added stress, I've had to give up smoking without the aide of the patch or other cessation devices, as I may be a bone marrow donor for her (testing in the next two weeks) and have to get as healthy as possible in a short period of time, posting becomes somewhat irrelevant. However, it is a good place to come and just see what others are doing, and relax and take my mind off the day to day humdrum, and personal stresses going on.
Side note to that, have taken to letting my pc run 24/7, since we found out of her condition, and am folding@home all the time now.

LOL...so now i'm not a n00b anymore...and I had a rather dead couple of evenings at work so I was able to sit around and borrow some of the company's bandwidth and geek out in here for a while and make a few posts, nevermind kill the boredom.
Talked to my sis saturday morning after i got off work, she was just getting her last dose of chemo, and gets next week off from it. Providing she doesn't catch any infections during the week, she gets to go home for a bit to rest and get away from the hospital atmosphere. All things are going well for the time being and her body seems to be reacting in a positve direction to the treatments, which is great news.
Gotta wonder how many posts it will take to not have the "chick's monnicker of i have a cd-burner" lol...still sorta chuckle at that one cuz I know a large number of people who think as soon as they have a pc they're "in the know" and immediately want to become part of the crowd.
Alas, we were all there at one time or another......
A big part of my limited knowledge has come from reading forums like this, as well as tech articles, how to articles and just plain gettin in the box and working on my own pc or other's that have brought them to me for help. One thing about it, a pc is an ever growing learning curve. Some get right into it, and a little knowledge becomes the quest for more....others are to scared to try anything at all. Admittedly I could not say I'm educated by any means in all the workings of a pc, just have a good basic understanding of them and a willingness to try and screw up and start all over again, but i suppose having a good background in mechanics and such hasn't hurt me either. I hope all the others that have joined and do join this forum in the future don't take offense to the monnickers, as they are all in fun.
