I've been looking around for any info on stealthing floppies but the only way that I have seen of doing so seems to be to make a hinged cover to go over the front of the drive.

This works well of course, but I kinda wanna do something cooler...I was thinking something along the lines of gutting a cheap cd-rom drive of everything except the motor and somehow mounting the floppy drive to the ejectable tray, then stealthing the outside the same way you would a regular optical drive.

I'd like to hear what you guys think of this. Good idea, bad idea? Even possible?

You mean to build an ejectable tray for the Floppy?just like for a cd-rom?
I think it is a good idea but a whole lot of work!

Thats what I was thinking...there are a lot of variables to think about before starting. Like once gutted, is the cd-rom roomy enough to fit the floppy drive, will the tray be able to support it, and then theres the issue of wiring since the floppy will be extended out...

But I figure, if I get a cheap cd-rom and floppy, it would only cost about $15-$20 so it wouldn't even be all that bad if it failed...the floppy would still be perfectly fine and you might even be able to salvage the cd-rom although thats unlikely.
