my x-mod RC car has been through hell and back, after having numberous crashes with XPTB's red supra and others. needless to say, the paint job looked like crap. i tried to remedy this by applying some model car paint but that only made things worse, so i decided to sand down the entire car and start over...
below is a reference pic of the acura rsx, as shown on radio shack's website.

and below we have a few pics of the post-sanding process...

i dont think it really looks too bad white. if i cant find a nice color to paint it, i might just leave it as-is :)
that's cool i've always been into RC. i wish i could get back into... of course i need a job :D

it looks good in white........and in all those pics, it looks like the car is slammed........wonder how it would look in flat black?

asides from the extensive body work (sanding, shaving, removing hood, side mirrors and sideskirts, adding sunroof ( aka cutting out a big hole in the roof) and removing rear side windows (more holes cut) ), ive also done a few internal mods. below is a pic of the stock metal drive shaft, and a replacement i made from plastic.

the reason the original is so long is to power the front wheels if you install the AWD kit. since i dont have/need/want the AWD kit, the extra lenth is useless, so i constructed a smaller shaft out of plastic. not only is this shafter much shorter, but it is also alot ligher as it is made from plastic and not metal like the orignal. below we have a pic showing the stock shaft in place.

and another pic showing the modified shaft.

some may argue, but i think i can notice a performance difference from the stock shaft to the modded shaft. also, the lightened body might help just a little too. i replaced the stock plastic bearings with the metal bearing in the kit from radio shack. these help things move more smoothly. other mods include the stage 2 motor upgrade and the tire upgrade, which gives you 4 more sets of tires to choose from.
i took the car out for a spin just a little bit ago. there is a section of campus where road work was just completed and fresh, smooth pavement was lain. i installed the top speed motor and fitted the rims with the hard tread tires, charged up the batteries and let her rip.
i was very impressed with the top-end speed. stock for the top speed level 2 motor is 16.2 mph i suspect my car is doing close to 18-19 mph with the weight reduction, bearings and modded drive shaft...

had a few accidents with it lately... first, i was running it at school and i didnt tighten the front lug nut on the left wheel.... so it rolled off and the screw on the bottom that holds the front shock thing in place broke and got lost.
then i managed to drive the car into a sewer cover dip in the street. the back axle part where it locks onto the wheel got stripped pretty good and had to be fixed. tightening it back in place with some pliers did the trick.
and finally, i made the mistake of running it on a street that had a lot of tiny rocks... the other screw in the front broke and fell out.
i havent played with it since then. maybe if i can find a smooth surface like the one in oxfird, ill give it another whirl

still the same internals, except the rear drivetrain which finally gave out. replaced it with the one from XPTB's old Supra. thanks ;)
EDIT: 5th cell mod coming this weekend. already tested it in a temporary setup... zoooom!

well the 5th cell mod soon evolved into a 6 cell mod

with the top speed motor, its a little slow on takeoff (cause of the weight) but once it gets to speed, it flies!
XPTB came down last weekend and raced my car on his rollerblades. of the three races that counted, i won 1 and he won the other 2. but, all three were within like half a foot, so it was pretty much dead even. and yeah, he can skate pretty damn fast too...

picked up some more parts for the car recently. replaced the front steering knuckles and tie rod with billet aluminum pieces. also reworked the entire rear end with billet aluminum alxe, axle shafts and cup joint shafts.

XPTB brought down a radar gun today to test the top speed of the car. I was a bit disappointed with only 18 mph. But since XPTB, the bearer of bad luck, was there, the car kept dying after just a few short minutes.
Tested his top seed on rollerblades, 18 mph too. And he was able to throw a tennis ball 50 mph heh
he was able to throw a tennis ball 50 mph heh
I'm so lame lol
