So I was working today on a few things and saw a new temp. monitor program that I had never seen before so I decided to try it out. Installed it and everything went smooth. Started it up and it said that my CPU was at 70 degrees Celsius. I got worried, but I thought that it just must be an error with the program. So I open another which I know is accurate, the nVidia Monitor. It also reads 70. At this point I am worried a bit. I checked the speed of my fans to make sure that nothing is off or low, all are at 100%. So, as a last resort I go into the BIOS and change all settings back to stock. When I get back into Windows I check the readings again and they are still at 70. At that point I decide to shut off the computer for a few hours to let it cool completely and try it again with stock settings. Still 70, and whats more, it reached 70 after only a minute or two running. Now at this point I am fairly sure that it is just reading incorrectly. Nothing else makes sense. All the settings are stock, including of course the voltages, and my computer has never run hotter than 40 even at the highest overclocks I have done. Anyone know what could be causing this?

have you removed your heatsink recently? perhaps its not making good contact.

No. Everything is the same as when I first assembled it. Then it read around 36 degrees on average through multiple temp. reading programs such as nVidia Monitor and Speedfan.

Maybe your board sensor took a dump. If the chip was really at 70° C it would be having all sorts of stability problems at stock speed, not to mention when overclocked, or if it would even boot at all.

Yeah, there is definitely no way the heat is actually at 70 degrees. I have no stability issues and there is no tangible heat when I feel the blades of the sink. Plus, I dropped the OC back down to stock and the temps did not change at all.

The only thing that has changed from the last time I checked the temps is that I formatted Windows, but I don't see how that could change anything. But maybe?

If even the BIOS is reporting the temp wrong, then it must be a faulty sensor. The only other thing I know to check would be to see if there is a newer BIOS version that might address a temp reading problem?

I was thinking the same thing. I'll flash the BIOS to the newest version DFI has got on their website in the morning and see if that helps. I just don't understand how it could go from working fine to misreading so badly without any change. Oh well. Hopefully flashing the BIOS will fix the problem. :???:
