nvidia kicks ati's ass (once again).

So the question is the above.

btw, I also want to know your reasons

As I have stated in other topics, I am very loyal to NVidia mainly due to there drivers (and Linux drivers, although ATI is doing much better for us other OS users). I'm currently running a 128mb 4600 and have put off upgrading till a game comes out which I can't run (properly), such as Doom 3, Half Life 2, etc. I've also been waiting for Nvidia to regain its
supremacy with the fastest card on the market. It looks like the later is now met, but now I just have to wait on the former before I shell out some cash.

Oh, and I need to rip up my contract with my fiance on not purchasing any more hardware for a year (some of you know what I went through ;) )

i might have to choose the x800 on this one...for one, it doesn't require near the power consumption. and two, i won't be using 6 pci slots to cool it ;-).

I voted for the Radeon, but after reading the WHOLE shootout, I might would go for the nVidia, since the Radeon probably will require better cooling (at least ramsinks) to overclock. But, I really don't expect to be buying either until they get under two hundred bucks.

Yeah, I feel like nvidia's design was an oh, oh, more power! oh -yeah design. It just not practical in power consumption and size. I usually side with raw performance but come on, two power connectors? If nvidia can refine that design a little to use less power, and be smaller, then I would go with them. However, ATI needs to update those drivers more often! Ultimately though, there just isnt room for the Nvidia card in my box. I dont have enough vacant pci slots :(

Nvidia... dealing with my last ATi installation and horror stories from other people as well I have came to one conclusion... ATi is the devil.

I'd vote Nvidia if I could.

ATI has a contest going on...grand prize is a gamer's rig, and they are giving away I think 4 new cards. Go to their site for details.

I'd definitely own one of the new Radeons...if they GIVE it to me!

Info from tomshardware.com: ( http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040504/ati-x800-20.html )

P4 3.2GHz, i865, 1GB DDR400

Aquamark3 triscore:

X800 XT: 58,006
X800 Pro: 54,080
9800XT: 46,569
6800U: 63,694
5950U: 44,851

------------------------------

Hmm....

Athlon 64 @ 2.3ghz, KT800, 512MB DDR460

FX5900: 55,914

(my score is actually rather moderate compared to the 60k and 70k+ scores from similar hardware that can be found on aquamark3.com's forums.)

At first I would be hesitant to drop $450+ on a new card(and I honestly won't be any time soon.), but.....

http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews/20040614_075223.html

"User Shamino used an Intel Pentium 4 overclocked to 4646MHz and a Leadtek A400 based on NVIDIAs GeForce 6800 Ultra to climb over 100.000 score points. "

I prefer the x800xt because they have the same performance but the ati has 6xAA and soon temporal anti aliasing

If I had deep pockets with a hole burnning in them, I would get the X800XT. I like the more efficient design of the ATi cards and have had very good luck with them for several years.
Maybe once the price drops a couple hundred I'll get one, until then I'll just have to limp along with my 9800 Pro.

I really would buy the 6800 Ultra cause of the drivers and I've always been a fan of Nvidia and cuz I owned a 9500 pro before and had tons of problems with Ati's drivers. I've heard they've fixed that but I still like the 6800 even tho I'm canadian and Ati is canadian also.
