Hi all, I'm in between three aftermarket HSF's currently:

1) Scythe Infinity ~USD$50
2) Noctua NH-U12F ~USD$65
3) Thermalright Ultra-120 ~USD$45

I'm inclined to go for the Infinity just because people with my mobo (MSI 975x PowerUp Edition) and my case (NZXT. Apollo) have both suggested it.

However, the Ultra-120 is the cheapest, and the NH-U12F is the best performer.

I would get the Ultra-120 just because it's cheaper, but it's safest to go with something that people who have my case and mobo have already tried, right?

PS It's a very low air-flow situation and I don't plan on OCing to the point that i need the BEST HSF out there, i just want something quiet and very cool (as opposed to somethign quiet and the best cool, quiet and hot, or anything loud) :)

thanks much

Any of those would be excellent for extreme air-cooled overclocking. I'm partial to Thermalright heatsinks myself. If you don't see yourself really upping voltage to your CPU you could actually save a bit more and still get a decent cooler.

What CPU is this for?

i might as well go with the cheapest one, then, eh? do you know if the 120 comes with a fan?

No it doesn't, but it comes with mounting brackets.

And looks like thermalright finally changed their old plain looking sticker.

If I am correct you should be able to run it with out a fan with no problem if you do NOT plan to overclock.

But if you do plan on overclocking then by all means get a fan too...

Also I have read that the stock fan has done pretty well even with mild overclocking. Why not use the stock fan?

no no i would use the fan if it came with one stock, but in all the reviews it didn't seem to o_O

thank you for all of your advice :)
