Hey guys, the other day I wanted to put some artic silver 5 under my passive northbridge heatsink of my asus a7n8x-e.
However, I was unable to get the freaking thing off

It has two little black pins on both sides with little tiny buttons on them. I tried everything, pushing the buttons then pulling the heatsink etc. However, it would not move.

Now I definitely want to get it off, but does anybody know how?

i decided to do the same thing with my Epox board. check the link below for a detailed description of exactly what i did:

you are pretty much on the right path, probably will just take some prying to get it to come loose

So you think eventhough it has these little buttons on top of the pins, I still have to take the whole motherboard out? (Damn, I hoped I didn't have to)

yea, more than likely you will have to remove the motherboard to get the the pins on the bottom...

Playafly187 is correct, you must push the pins out from underneath the motherboard so you can pull the pins out from the other side. Then a pair of pliers should be used to squeze the remainding plastic pins underneath the motherboard and once removed the heatsink should be able to be pulled off pretty easily.

Yes I'd recommend anyone who is overclocking to take off there northbridge and re-apply some artic silver 5 or change it like I did and put a Vantec Iceberq copper on there and push for those high fsb's. 8)
