Okay, So I purchased a new house that has structured wiring throughout the house. More"]More (http://[/SIZE) Info on Structured wiring. Question is since there will be cat5e running in all the rooms should I still use a router or not?

If your house is prewired for network you still need a router. A router allows you to share one internet connection among multiple computers. If you were only planning on connecting one PC to the internet you wouldn't necessarily need a router, but it's still a good idea for the firewall.

Generally on pre-wired houses, you're going to have more than the 3-4 ports a Router will provide, and you don't want to keep walking down to the basement to make different ports hot, so it's a common solution to put your modem into the router, and plug your primary computer into the router, and then run from the router down to a 8 or 16 port switch (or hub if you dont' care about speed that much) in your basement, and make the rest of the ports hot.
Cheers :)
