Hi all,

I'm Mark from the Casper, Wy area. I'm an old hand at building machines but never OCed. That is changing. I am currently in the process of building a machine based on the Asus P5N-T deluxe (yes, I've heard the horror stories). I have the board mounted in an Antec 900 with TPQ-1000, 4GB OCZ Reaper HCP 1066 Mhz DDR2, (2) 500 Gb seagate 7200.11 32mb HD's, (2) 8600GTS's, blah blah blah.

I have not bought a processor and HSF yet (I'm seeing price drops), but leaning toward the Q9450 becuase of the 1333 FSB with Thermalright's ultra 120 extreme for cooling. Tell me what you think

Anyway happy to be here hope to learn new things

Mark

That's a good processor, but you won't benefit much from the 1333 FSB much because your running ddr2 1066. You'll be able to OC the ram using that processor pretty easy.

Hey, welcome to the boards!

Just wondering what kind of budget are you setting aside for cooling?

I found the Reaper HPC DDR2-800 to be a fairly poor overclocker, hopefully the DDR2-1066 proves to be better.

I had really good luck with the ReaperX DDR2-800 4 gig kit, overclocking it to DDR2-1059. If the ReaperX DDR2-1000 performs simlarly, it might be the better value.

But yeah, DDR2 boards really don't benefit much from the 1333mHz FSB.

The Antec 900 comes with a 200mm top mounted fan for exhuast and 1 120mm fan at rear for exhuast, along with 2 120mm fans mounted at front for intakes. The front of the case is vented very well and seems to be an excellent case for moving air. The reviews i've read rate it high for air cooling so we will see. I believe the Thermalright ultra 120 extreme will give me the cooling I need on the processor, at least from what I have read anyway. I'ts all about experimenting and learning anyway, right?

All right, the Tr ultra 120 is a great cooler--beware though, you might have to lap it to get it to do its job best :)

Well I,m hoping to overclock the 1066 and gain some ground, I,ve read some others have had luck at OCing this ram at or very close to 1333 just hoping to have the same luck. I'm building this just to run my Microsoft FSX which supports multiple cores and DX 10. If my wife ever figures out what it is costing, well, funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM sunday LOL
