Yeah it's me again with my stupid TV capture questions (getting pretty good at it aamof).
This time the audio:
I'm editing cable captured video and I have a stronge hiss in all my captures. I edit my video using virtual dub and its filters and I wanted to know if there's a filter available to remove the hiss from the audio. And if it can't be done in virtual dub, how can I achieve the same idea with other software?
Thanks

virtual dub is notorious for this issue. try a different software is my best advice (or you could possibly do a sound tweak on it with some more sophisticated software to get rid of the frequency where the hiss occurs)

The hiss is already in the original file captured with virtual VCR, so it's not virtual DUB's fault.
What would you say is more sophisticated software?

umm, tough call for me as i'm not a guru in this area. you might be able to do it with Pro Tools

Let's get back to basics first. If the original file has the his then the hiss is coming from an outside source. Check virtual VCR and see what the Audio input source is set to. Switch windows volume properties to Recording. Also you need to check your Volume settings and turn on all the options so you can see everything. Make sure only the Audio Input that has the Cable Audio is selected. One test would be to have no audio playing but have your volume properties open and crank up the volume to almost max and listen for a hiss. Mute and unmute the different sources and see if you can find out were it is coming from. It might be that there is no hiss in your captures but it's your Line-In not being muted that is hiss all the time.
