Hey all,
I was browsing through your forums and I noticed that it appears that you have not yet set up a Folding@Home team. Well, I'm here on behalf of www.extremeoverclocking.com to invite you, and to ask you, to join us in the race to cure diseases. We have one of the best folding folding teams in the world, with amazing support and wonderful teammates. All I ask is that you take a few minutes to read the Folding@Home extremeoverclocking forum found here:
http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/forumdisplay.php?f=45
The Folding@Home homepage is found here:
http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/
Folding is for an excellent cause, not to mention the fact that it can get highly cometitive between teams, and also even teammates. I cannot think of a better use for those extra CPU cycles than to aid disease research, nor can I think of an easier way to give back to the community and world as a whole. I hope you'll choose to join.
If you have any questions that the sticky's cannot answer, which should be very few, please don't hesitate to post at or search the extremeoverclocking forums. We are there to help in any way we can. I will also be frequenting you forums, so I should be able to respond to any questions you post here in a reasonable amount of time.
Happy folding all!!!
Chris

We actually do have a Folding team.
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_list.php?s=&t=12913
It was on a roll early last summer and then participation tapered off after a few months. I think someone here mentioned that it actually caused their electric bill to go up. :P

Ahhh, ok, well I just didn't see it mentioned in the forum anywhere. It usually costs like 3-5 dollars a month per rig running folding, but that is so small it's negligible.
Regardless, the offer stands. At worst this can open up communication between our teams.
Fold On!!!!

I've only recently started folding for our team :) Never knew about it to be honest and that considering I'm basically studying that stuff every day.
Anyway, now I finally have a reason to keep my computer on 24/7.
Btw, those 3 to 5 dollars, is that considering you already always leave your compu on and only considering the extra power it uses not being idle? Or is that considering you normally have your computer on say 6 hours a day?
ViperX883

That takes into account the extra power the comp consumes by leaving it running 24/7 at 100%. It is primarily the extra ower you use by folding instead of having it sit idle.
EDIT: Testing out the sig.

I wonder how many computers here at work I could get to start doing it. I used to run SETI at my house, but the electric bill skyrocketted. Still though, there's a few thousand computers here at work

Well, right now I'm only a lowly college student so I have it running on my main rig, my PIII 866, and my gf's rig. I also have it running on about 12 of the physics computers at my school, but they are older macs so they take a LONG time. I'm trying to put together a decent AMD sys for the family, and if I can then folding will go on that. Doing what I can...

just an off the wall question..do you run extremeoverclocking.com?
ViperX883
06-18-2004, 04:48 PM
You mean do I run the EOC website??? No, but I am an active contributor to the EOC Folding team. Don't get the wrong impression. I wasn't trying to say that I run anything, only that we would love to have more peopel fold with us. This all really came about when overclocking.com decided they might wanna start a folding team. I stumbled across their post and jokingly suggested that they join us, but apparently they took it more seriously than I suspected!!!! They have teamed up with us and we are getting lots of new members pretty rapidly. That gave me the idea to go around and find forums that did not have Folding teams and to invite their users to fold with us. Basically, it may be considered a kind of "unofficial" partnership. Everyone over at EOC seems to be thrilled by the recent happenings and I have not been repremanded by any of the mods/admins so I figure I would try to recruit more folders. Two forums is better than one, and 10 is better than two!!!

My fault Striker, I didn't think it would upload if the file was too large. Thanks for lending a hand though.

Also, I have prepared an FAQ on Folding@Home for another forum, so I woudl like to place link to that very specific thread in my sig. Kryo, Striker, or another admin (if there is one), could you let me know if this woudl be alright?
Thanks again fellas!!!

This is off of Folding@Home's FAQ page... just so you're aware.
>>>
Can I run Folding@Home on a machine I don't own?
Please only run Folding@Home on machines you either own or on which you have the permission of the owner to run our software. Any other use of Folding@Home violates our license agreement (and just isn't a good idea in general).

I have a mild suggestion to make, so don't flame me if you're not interested...
The EOC team is one of the most successful, and we have been making an effort to unite some of the forums under a common banner with the hopes of making a push to teh top. Right now, our conglomerate consists only of two forums sadly, extremeoverclocking.com and overclocking.com, but we're always looking for some new forums to join. Basically, I'm extending an invitation for youguys to fold alongside us on team 11314. We encourage the use of tags for your folding user name to indicate which forum you are from. For instance, [mine would be [OCIA]ViperX883 if I was originally from this forum. This has worked really well the OC'ing.com team so far, and it would be great to have you guys along as well. We can acoomplish more to together than we can alone.
Please don;t let me discourage you from making your own team. I just wanted to extend the invitation. Please click the left half of my sig to get more information.

hey, no worries about the post and suggestion. pretty large team there... hehe
i actually think im going to stick with team OCIA.net for now, and encourage others to do the same. we already have a decent size team, currently ranked 423 of 33,708. with some help from our new forum members, and old members, i feel we can bring team OCIA.net back to what it once was...
*starts folding now under 'OCIA_Staff' username* :D :D :D

Good luck then guys. Just remember that the invitation is always there.
I'll be around to post about it considering I am a big proponent of folding. Hopefully some more members will catch on and join in teh festiviites though. Hmmm, maybe, just maybe, a new forum section is needed??? ;)
