View Full Version : ThermalTake Silent Tower compatability question

Okay, so, this thing's kinda new so people might not know.

But I've got an AMD 64 3000+ on an ASUS K8V SE Deluxe, and I've been poking around trying to find out if they're compatible, but I haven't found it anywhere. I know that the Tower's compatible with my CPU, but I still have to mount this monstrosity and I don't know if I've got the holes for it on my mobo.

Of course, I still have to measure my case, too. This sucker's HUGE!

That mobo is just an ATX form factor and therefore should easily fit into that case with all the holes etc. Especially if you say the case is huge!! 8)

Oh, no sorry. The Silent Tower thingy (didn't explain this, did I?) is a heat pipe based CPU heatsink, and you can hook up to two fans onto it. I think it's 80mmx80mmx140mm or something like that. Big sucker. I've got some standard cheapo mid-tower case, I forget what.

But since the heatsink is so big, it's got a huge H-bracket that goes behind the mobo and screws directly into that, and I don't know if I've got the holes in my mobo around the processor to mount the thing.

Ahh, sorry I didn't understand your question. Good question. I looked at a picture of the mobo here (http://usa.asus.com/products/mb/socket754/k8vse-d/k8vse-d_l.jpg).

I can't see any mounting holes, but maybe you can take off the original bracket and use its holes.
Anyway, that's just my humble opinion and I'm definitely not sure, but I guess Silenze can help you some more, wait for him to post.

Hmm... I've removed all the fan grills in my case and installed a TT Volcano 9 fan in the rear by the HSF -- 26° C idle (39° C load) with the retail cooler @ default 2.0Ghz.

I haven't looked at any other solutions for my 64, but I put in my 2 cents anyway.

I'm guessing it would fit though considering the amount of room already taken up by the mounts...

Viola!

It fits..

"To test it, our fellow-member used a Athlon processor 64 3200+ installed on a mother board Asus K8V Deluxe."

The TT HSF's would probably just replace the OEM one that came on the motherboard. (The holes are already there, just filled.)

Ah, touche!

Y'beat me to it, though.

Crap! That was my last excuse not to buy it . . . I'm running a recording studio with this
rig, so the 34+ decibels on my retail HSF right now just isn't cutting it.

And of course, the thing looks so nice I'll have to put in a window. This is my first
computer I've built myself, and I see how this modding can get out of control . . .

My case has a pretty nice grill on the front panel, but the panel came broken from
NewEgg. They sent out another one and I installed it just fine, but now I have an extra
panel lying around with a grill in it and broken connectors. And now I find myself thinking
"Well, I've got a matching grill that's just about the right size, I could just put a blowhole
in and cover it with that . . ."

Addictive stuff, this.

En'guarde! :P

Quite, it is very much fun.

You may want to check out a Thermalright w/92mm fan..

www.thermalright.com -- SLK-948U, Vantec 92mm Tornado, fan controller, you're set.

Take a look at the Aerocool HT 101 also, basicly the same design as the TT. I have the aerocool on my AMD rig, with dual fans (2 X 80mm) and it does quite well.

we have a review of this heatsink coming up in the next few days... not sure if it will help with this question, but thougth i would mention it anyway... cooling ability = excellent!

if silent is what you want, id suggest you check out Zalman's 80mm case fans:

http://www.case-mod.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=25_57&products_id=362

they come with a resistor that allows them to operate at 20 dBA. i have 5 of these in my case, along with a 92mm chrome fan on my heatsink, zalman silent video card cooler and a zalman silent 400w PSU. you cant even hear the system... and i get excellent temps for an overclocked system...

1700xp @ around 2600xp speeds, load temps around 43C

Here's another review of it:

hope it helps...........

but just a suggestion, you might want to tie a string from that thing to ur PSU or something.........that think weighs a lot and is not call a tower for no reason!........LOL

. . . operated by my own little army of hamsters that I have living in my case, of course. If I train 'em well enough, I won't need an external fan controller, I can just have one of them sitting at a control board like Homer Simpson . . .

I guess you could have those hamsters keep your fans running while you're at it. Just attach one of those little wheels to them and there you go!
That way you can save some electricity.

or hook it up to a generator for lights in the case

Did that extra pannel come with power, reset switch, & L.E.D.'s? I guess what I'm gettng at is I need wiring tails for those parts for a project I'm working on. If anyone has any of these extra connectors and wants to donnate or sell them please let me know.

Sure, no problem. I already dremel'd the grill out, so it's torn up anyway. I'll just cut out the power switch (don't want to try melt the glue and screw something up). PM me your address, and I'll send it out if you cover shipping.

And I think Freud would have something to say about that tower . . . heatsink envy?

MnKy
07-13-2004, 10:59 PM
yea... I strongly oppose that heatsink due to its center of gravity.

It will bend and crack tracing on ur mobo or warp the shape of it.
