View Full Version : Best Heatsink/Fan Combo for Overclocking?

Okay, I am curious as to everyone's opinion of what is the best HSF combo on the market today. I use a custom 120mm 110v Blower fan mounted over my proc with a stock hsf, but I want to go to an aftermarket hsf to get into the 6,000rpm range. I feel this would be a better performer. I am familiar with several manufacterers suck as Thalman, and Thermaltake, but I am curious what other, more experienced, overclockers prefer for Air Cooling.
And please....don't let my Avatar distract you.....focus! LOL

On this site all the admins use the Foxconn AMD 3400 + Heat Guzzler Heatsink and that one only ;-)
No really, on my xp 3200+ I have a thermaltake volcano 12, which goes up to 6200 rpm. Cools excellent, but LOUD as hell.
I guess the best one to get is a thermalright, they use heatpipes, which is like a very tiny water cooling system.
I hear the zallmans are nice and quiet.

Thermalright sp94 for intel or sp97 for amd are excellent coolers

Yea, I have the SP94 - It cools very well and has the option of either an 80mm fan or 92mm fan to meet your cooling needs.

I think you would have to look hard to find one that will out cool the Swiftech V-series

I also have a thermaltake volcano 12 and it cools very well, but very noisy at full speed

Get the Thermalright heat pipe cooler, then get a Vantec Tornato or even a Delta (If ur okay with the noise  )..........then OC like maddddd 8)

Bought a 92mm Tornado for the SP94, decided to stick with the 92mm panaflo for noise reasons. Never really tried to see how much further I could push my system with the Tornado - maybe I should give it a try. :)

I'm running ThermalRight's SLK-947U (Cause I found it for cheap) with a 92mm Tornado spinning at just under 2700 RPM. It keeps my P4 nice and cool. Turning it up drops my temps about a degree or two but not worth all the noise, IMO. Gotta love those fans controllers.

Look at my sign.... :D
It does not sound like a missile , and it keeps my baby cool at 2.8@3.2G.
Room temp 29C - Idle 37-38C , Full load 48-49 Max :D

Yeah, I could see that breaking my mobo in half after hanging on there for a week.

omg!!! that thing dwarfs the sp-94 (which is not a small heatsink itself)
kinda cool that it weighs less than the sp-94 though. i don't think that it's in production mode yet. so until it is, i'd say the sp-94 is still my favorite heatsink. :-)

If your using a socket A mobo then I'd suggest using the same heatsink as me or the sp-97 with a 92mm Tornado. If you are using a socket 478 mobo
then I'd use the Coolermaster Hyper6 if it will fit.

Man!
Though only to be beaten by the Thermaltake Tower 112. (see XPTB's excellent review here if you haven't seen it yet. ) http://www.ocia.net/reviews/tower112/tower112.shtml There's no way I'd put that heavy mother on my mobo unless I left my rig on it's side.

i got a blue orb and it ocs fine its not that high of an rpm (like 1700 i tink) but its real big so it pushes more air and its mad silent
I currently have a zalman on my P4, and it is VERY quiet (no overclock tho)
fan controllers generate more heat imo for those crazy about temps

I really like my Thermaltake Big Typhoon, I have my 3700+ OC'ed to about 2.8 at times and temps never approach 40.
Of course, thats with the case side off, and in our basement which is underground and extremely cool.
