hey I'm working on some computers replacing faulty motherboards and am having trouble with the shitty pink thermal sticker that was put on the heatsinks. ive managed to take it off the heatsink bases but am having trouble getting it off the cpu die. for the heatsinks i used a citrus based cleaner but ive heard bad things about using it on cpus. does anyone have some recommended techniques to getting this stuff off??? btw i have tried isopropyl alcohol and it doesnt work very well at all, i dont have the time to spend hours on each cpu as i'm doing about 30 of em. somebody help....oh god somebody help......

There is a product called Goof-Off, another called Oops...they are the same product. You'll find them in the paint section of Walmart or Lowe's. You should be able to find a pretty small container of it. Cost 3-5 bucks. It is a xylol-based solvent. Laquer thinner would work, too, but the Goof-off is not as quite as "hot" of a solvent and a little safer to work with. Be aware that either is extremely flammable.
Use the isopropyl alcohol to clean everything after using the solvent.

I've always use lighter fluid (Zippo type) works good and can usually be found for less than a dollar.

Yeah, naptha is a pretty good solvent, too...not as hot as xylol. (so safer to use)

Everything but isopropyl alcohol leaves a residue when it dries.

But if he's removing "pink stuff" thermal pad, it's actually wax based, so the goof-off is the best choice for removing it, finishing with Iso alcohol, (not rubbing alcohol, which is Iso with a small amount of oil added)
With the goof-off, be careful to only applied it to the CPU surface, while it shouldn't hurt the MB epoxy during brief contact, it will eat the laquer/clear coat and allow oxidation to start on the surface traces, never a good thing
