Looks like Robertson just made some phat cash for running Microsoft on their heels and winning most court cases.
Microsoft has made peace with Michael Robertson's Linspire Linux company, paying $20m to settle all outstanding trademark issues surrounding the Lin---s distribution. Linspire promises never to use the Lin---ws word ever again in its branding. Linspire also appears to have eked out another compromise from Redmond, with a four-year, royalty-free license to certain Windows media components. The deal smooths the way for a stateside IPO for Linspire.
Wish I could make $20 million for bustin M$ in the chops a few times.

Yeh, but I can't afford the lawyer fees for 3 years while M$ tries to take everything not attached to me (and I wouldn't put it past them to try that). Anyone remember when they tried to sue Mike Rowe for his MikeRoweSoft.com domain? Wonder if they ever got him to give it up.

Ya, they ended up giving him paid trainning on MCSC and all things Microsoft. Plus a ton of free MS products, then ended up selling all the legal documents on ebay for $10,000.
umm....Not bad.

really though, it amazes me how M$ is always in the courtroom. nice to know that people buying windows are doing nothing but to support lawyers that run every competition into the ground.
and yet, M$ backs redvsblue.com. aside from the advertising (which microsoft doesn't need any of), there is no real benefit to them. i can't say i've met a single person that bought an XBox because of redvsblue.

Yup between legal fees, and MS getting to incert their products into Linspire, I'm not sure who came out ahead on this deal. When you have $50 billion in the bank and billions of income from the name/trademark $20mil is a pretty cheap cure for a headache
