So i have an e-machines, model T-2482. basically I have 768 MB of RAM (256 in one slot and 512 in the other) and an Athlon 2400+ AMD. I was wondering how to overclock it, i dont know how and havent found anything to helpful. do i need to invest in another cooling fan as well?
thanks

i doubt you'll be able to overclock it much, due to it being an oem computer. however, if you change out motherboards, you might stand a pretty good chance.

what is an OEM? all I want to know is HOW to overclock. i dont understand HOW! I just aquired an old GX1 Dell for free and its not bad. 512 MG or RAM (2 256 chips) and a Pentium 3 that runs at 500 mghz. I found several jumers and they were marked: PSWD then the next is BIOS then bus 66 mghz, 266, 300, 333, 350, 400, 450, and 500. i found it at 266 and i put the jumper(one of them, the other was on PSWD and i left that one. the one that was at 266) all the way up to 500. now is there any other way that i can set it up even more? What do i do to overclock it? i dont get it. and i dont understand how to do it with my Emachines either. can ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

Computers by Dell, Gateway, Compaq, Buck-a-Day. They're no good for overclocking. On a lot of them you can't even get into a proper bios.
You *may* be able to swap in a name-brand motherboard and get some results, but something is telling me that p3's are locked anyway.
Google is your best friend in this case, as changing the jumpers on boards varies case to case.
You'll only need a new fan if you are able to up the voltage to a point where the processor is too hot. You'll only need to up the voltage if you are able to up the processor's multiplier. (something I doubt those machines will allow you to do)

ok, so now i have done much more research on this. I see that i can not raise the FSB through my BIOS because its a DELL, and i assume its gonna be the same way with my Emachines. Do is there anywhere i can get a hacked BIOS for either the crappy (but free ) GX1 or the T-2482 emachine? does anyone know how i can get a hacked bios or go into the system config and disable it myself? anyone please?

Sorry, but I don't think there is any way except change out the motherboard.

i've seen a couple hacked bios's around the net. however, it's been a long while since i've seen one, and even then, i don't know if i'd want to chance ruining a perfectly good, yet slow motherboard. if you flash the bios on an OEM board, and it doesn't take it, you could have a dead motherboard.

best bet on oem stuff is to get a different motherboard for it, and maybe some different memory. you can try playing with the jumpers, but i doubt you'll get very far on it. i had a GX-260 here at work that I wanted to overclock a bit farther. i tried to find a hacked bios for it as well, but was unable to do so. sometimes you can find programs that will let you change the processor speed from inside windows. you might want to give that a try. also, dell like many OEM companies, generally uses Foxconn motherboards. so if you are looking for a hacked bios, you might wanna toss that into your search string

Yeah, we looked for hacked bios for the boxes here at work - we did find a piece of software that allowed us do some overclocking but found that it wasn't worth the effort. Dell's dont have the cooling, chipset and cpu, that you need nor do they have the best ram. They really aren't any good at overclocking
