Im undecided on what card to use, im not that big a fan on ATI due to driver support. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Personally, I think ATi currently has better driver support than Nvidia.
ATi 9600XT
Nvidia 5900
are both good cards at a reasonable price.

yeh, i would agree with underground on this one.
Yeah i have a 9600xt and honestly I'm not getting the preformance out of it that it's capable of because my system is alittle bit old, but it is a good card and either one of those cards will work nicely.

Thanks for the input, i had alot of problems with ATI, never had one problem with nvidia, only problem was the card died. Ill probably go with the 5900.

9800 or higher in ATI or 5900 or better in Nvidia will handle just about anything.

This might be slightly off topic, but I notice CompUSA had an ATi 9800 Pro w/128mb for $200 after rebates. Thought it was a sweet deal on a great card and thought I would pass it along.
BTW...I paid $400 for that exact card last December

Is your AGP aperture set to 64 or 128? Setting mine to 128 made a world of difference.

I'll accept that as valid as soon as ATI codes it into their drivers themselves. :)

Thats not code for the drivers, its code for the game. It optimizes Doom 3 for ATi, the same way Doom 3 has been optimized for Nvidia from the beginning.
Heh, you must not have read much of it..
My guess is that the code change will be in an upcoming patch for Doom 3

No I didn't read all of it, don't care much for ATI...
Helps the x800's quite a bit, but doesn't do much for the 9800's (they weren't lacking anyway really).
And I meant they could fix the drivers to optimize that without having to modify the game itself.
Or yeah a patch...

I found some article on the basic technology of doom3 that related to nvidia and ati architectures.. that was pretty interesting and enlightening.... but I can't find it again! :(
