Who wants one? I think they are going to be badass, nothing to what to the new GTO has to offer though.

Is that a grand am?........ No, Grand Prix, ......wait ......Bonniville? ....Oh no thats a new GTO. Oh crap I cant tell they all look the same!
I'll spend 2 grand more to get a mustang cobra and put that GTO in its place....
By the way, I like the new mustang - I hope they do a GT500 version (Like the one in "Gone in 60 Seconds)"

yeh, i think the GTO is going to be heavily overrated personally. I would much rather have a RX-7 with all the turbos myself ;-)

Pontiac may have made their cars all look the same, thats the one downfall to it, but everyone knows what a GTO is, just like mustang and camaro. Im just a fan of the GTO, its 350 horse stock, only mustang out now is a the svt cobra and its 390 horse, but insurance on the svt is higher in this area. The new RX-7's look cool, and are really low priced, starting at 23, the one set back is the horsepower, 238 horse stock. take the GTO or the RX-8 drain the same amt of cash into both, the RX-8 wont be able to keep up
plus the GTO sounds better :D

don't know about that. i was speaking of the rx-7, not the rx-8. which you talked about both in your post, so i'm assuming you noticed. right now though the rx-7 isn't being sold in the US, it's JPN only. Still yet, both of them use rotary engines, which are lighter and more powerful when talking about the same size engine. regardless, i will agree that the GTO sounds pretty mean, but no more than any other V8 currently in production. That's just the typical sounds of a V8.
who knows, maybe i'll just wait on the new Supra (dreams of winning the lottery)

Not saying they don't have a purpose, I just think they could have done a better job integrating them in with the rest of the body....So it wouldn't look so much like an after-market add-on.

I don't know... I like the old skool look. I'm getting tired of all the newer cars looking more & more like an egg.
If I were to go by another car today it would be a 69' Chevelle

I like to think I have an obtainable dream car - 69 Shelby Mustang GT500. So I am kind of excited about the new mustang b/c it is a step closer to the GT500.
I also like the GT - it flat preforms, ford said it would be close to a Murcielago in straight line speed, with as good or better handling in the slalom not bad for les than half the price of a Murcie.

then again, some try and take it too far...
example: every 'hybrid' electric car. all look the same, with that silly looking cover over the rear tire. i bet these cars would sell really well if they actually looked good.
I don't know what Chrystler was smoking when they made the PT Cruiser. That thing is just wrong.

I dunno, I liked the PT Cruiser for some reason the first time I saw it...and still do, though there's far too many of them around now. The Prowler looks cool for about 2 seconds...then YUK!
I don't care that much for the retro thing because they aren't close enough...why build something that looks somewhat similar to a GT 40, a 1955 T-Bird, or whatever...Just build a damn GT 40 shell over a modern car. Not that I would ever have any desire to drive a '60's Lemans racer around on the streets. But gimme one...I'll sell it and buy something reasonable. Anyway, yeah, the side scoop on the new GT does look stupid...here's how it is supposed to look:
http://www.me.mtu.edu/~prater/carpics/fords/GT40/gt40_3.jpg
But, if you have to have one, the new GT is pretty close. It has to surpass the 'Vette for the "I can't afford a "real" exotic, and I have a small penis, so I drive this car to make up for it" award.
As for the 2005 Mustang....at first glance it looks good...cool rear end....cool grill, but I don't like the outer headlights, the covers look stupid...but something about it....hmmmm...something's just not right with the roof...The best way I can put it, is that someone took like a 1997 Dodge Neon, and rear ended a 1988 Mustang GT, which in turn rear ended a 1966 GT Fastback, all at about a million miles an hour, and they ended up becoming one car. Those stupid black seals on the roof. Why did they put them there...why Why WHY???
I like the new GTO...BUT IT HAS THOSE STUPID SEALS TOO...ARGGGGGGGGGG!!!
And the hybrids...I dunno....every time I pass one on the highway, I feel like the driver wants to stop and hug a tree....something about the shape of the rear quarterpanel, I guess.

Thought you would get a kick out of this reply in a thread on [H]. The subject was "A true muscle car". It was about a cherry 1966 Dodge Charger with the stock 426 Hemi in it. (first year of the 426 Hemi)
one of several photos: http://members.rogers.com/skagoat/Charger4.JPG
This one particular guy posted only this photo with no text: http://woodturnedcreations.com/Dud3!/pix/Rice/Orange_Civic_DelSol_rice.jpg
The next guy comes along and says about the Del Sol:
"Not rare
Not powerful
Not expensive
Not RWD
Not pretty
Not ..."
The guy that posted the Del Sol photo exclaimed:
"What are you talking about? The Honda Civic Del Sol represents the pinnacle of automotive engineering. I scoff at your "hemi"."
I'm not knocking the DelSol...but please don't scoff at a 426 Hemi. :)

But those Mustang numbers are from a sales brochure, I'm sure magazines will get much better. I believe the 03 cobra was posting up like a 13.3-.4 according to ford, however most drivers can easily hit 12s wihtout any mods in those cars. It's all in the driver.
Plus 13.6 to a 14.9 is a HUGE performance difference. So That is still pretty good. I mean, if that was a real race, the 14.9 would have gotten murdered.

lol, yeh i know a huge difference. it's just not the point i was trying to make. i was trying to say that i think that the mustang should be faster. if a 4-banger import can run it in a lil under 15, a v8 should be able to run it significantly faster (though 1.3 seconds is substantial). i'm just tired of all the american hot-rods not running sub-12 or sub-13 times. :-)

Droooooooooool.....
I hear ya Kryo, but the fact of the matter is: With a v8, you start sacrificing gas mileage for those 12s/11s. If you want to keep your car at a reasonable level for that, your gonna have to cut HP. Sad but true in a v8s case.
I mean, you can pay 19gs for a Neon SRT-4 and run 14.1ish where you pay 23 or so Gs to run 14.2ish with the Mustang GT now. Both of them have huge potential for 12s, but the Mustang will be cheaper in the long run... however the SRT-4 will still get the best gas mileage.
It's all in what you like. Nowadays you can have both: 4 banger or V8 running side by side :D

best ET I've seen for an SRT4 is 13.7.. with a big down pipe, free flowing exhaust, boost controller, probably do 12's, but it's still a damn neon :(

very true...i just don't think i could drive a neon :-(.
Neon's do blow. The funny thing is, Saturn released their Ion Redline with the supercharger. I drove one and boy is it freakin' slow. Probably a high 15 or so for 23k???? The salesman told me they haven't even sold 1. I was there test driving an Ion 3 for my mom and I wanted to drive the redline for fun. I was the first person to ever even test drive. I know why, who would pay 23k for a 15 second neon when they could pay that for a low 14s Mustang? or the Neon if you into 4 bangers? Sad Sad Sad.

started seeing the new 05s around. I'm a little indifferent about them
I've seen some I like and some that look like butt. I definitely like the 04 style better. The 04s just look more like a muscle car. I think the new ones would look better if they were sitting on bigger rims. Hook them up with some nice Bullitt wheels and I'll like them.
The one I saw that I liked was the one with the Bullitt wheels. :barf: on stock wheels

Stock wheels suck.. the interior isn't too bad, little cheesy on the gauges.. big round chrome surroundings, trying to be retro.. the seats are nice and they finally setup the center console to accommodate the shifter (it's higher and the shift throw is shorter)... but yeah not impressive on the stock wheels.

Have you seen them with the optional bullitt wheels?
Anyone know what the size of the stock wheels are? If those are 17s then I think they desperately need 19s. 18s possibly. The car is way to big to be riding on small rims. At least the muscle cars have moved back to their "land yacht" ancestors

anyone care to mix old and new 390cid BIG block 600 HP/Torque??? as well as 32 miles to the gallon????
also as a note, they have conversion kits for the fox bodies to shoehorn a 460 in one with a c-4or c-6, and supposaly they claim a 10 sec car without any "other" mods
damn, now that is nice. When I get some money, that will definitely be something to look into. F the carburators, heh.
Just looked at the new mustang movie on Fords website. You can get optional upgrades for it including dual subwoofers in the front doors and premium speakers in the back. If that isn't enough, ford will mount dual 500 watt subs in the truck for a nice 1000 watts of thump, FROM THE FACTORY.
Not bad at all. Another funny thing is that the automatic gets better fuel economy than the manual. Go figure
