<rant>

So I purchased a set of Pro Media 2.1's right at a year ago, and I couldnt have been happier... well, maybe. The sound is excellent, bass to rival my old two 12's tower speakers, etc... The only thing that sucked about the speakers were the connection terminals on the back of the sub. At first glance, they appear to be the typical speaker terminals, whereas you push down the button deal, insert the wire, then release, and your done. These, on the other hand, are a pain in the ass. If you dont push them down exactly right, they will pop right out of place.

With this being the case, it is not a big surprise that I end up losing one of the buttons in a move back home from school. I compromised and managed to jam the wire in there to make contact with the metal connection terminal thingy. I found myself having to reinsert the wire every few weeks, as it would wiggle its way out.

Just a few days ago, we move into our new apartment. I get on the ground to hook up the speakers and after about an hour of screwing around, I find that the left channel speaker is dead. Yes, the same one that was missing the button terminal.

In conclusion, I look back, having spent nearly $200 for these speakers... everything is excellent except for those shitty terminals.... now i must sit here listening to the right speaker until i can afford new speakers :(

</end rant>

Chances are, if you take that speaker apart, you can find a suitable replacement part(s) for it at a Radio Shack near you. I used to have a set of Klipsch house speakers, and blew a mid-range on one of them. The R S replacement was actually of better quality than the original Klipsch hardware.

i actually did remove the whole terminal area from the back of the sub.... bypassed the connection terminals and connected directly to the contact point for the left channel... dead...

Can you get inside and see if perchance a soldering joint broke? I'd lay odds on this if you were forcing the wire in every couple of weeks on and off for a while. It's probably a simple fix once you get right in there.

one thing i forgot to include.... my cousin was here helping me... he suggested that we insert a screw into the terminal hole to help hold the wire in place....

think this might have messed something up? i dont really see how....

Now I'd really bet on a broken soldering joint. Often times there's a diode attached to them as well. I'd say unplug it and open it up. It isn't working now anyways, so there's little likelyhood of voiding any warranties considering what else it has gone thru. Let me know what you find in there. I've messed around with a lot of different electrical devices and soldering and such over the years.

we already opened it up and touched the speaker wires to the backside of the pcb where the original solder point is.... nothing.. :(

I'm assuming you tried the dead speaker on the side that works to make sure it's not the speaker itself?

There might be something in there that will help.

right on man, beats shelling out another 2 spot to replace 'em.
