Doom 3: CATALYST 4.9 BETA

ATI is providing an early version of CATALYST 4.9 to users interested in increasing performance of Doom 3.

I'm downloading them now to check em out, I'll let you know if they make a difference.

I wouldn't say all that, at least there not using game cheats that Nvidia is so notorious for.
If I remember correctly, when they first started talking about producing Doom3, Nvidia was going around making a big deal saying that game was going to be optimized for there hardware.

Looks to me Nvidia & ID had something worked out from the beginning that would give Nvidia the edge playing Doom3.
The article you posted takes one more steep to prove it, not to mention a few other articles I have read discussing about how ID did a poor job coding for the ATi crowd.
Besides just because Nvidia plays ONE game better, isn't enough to make me root for the other team

"The problem
The problem with ATI's drivers in DOOM 3 has to do with texture filtering"

"ATI does have a bug in its Catalyst 4.8 and 4.9 beta drivers currently available to the public, and that bug affects image quality in DOOM 3. However, ATI is not trading off image quality for performance; this is an honest-to-goodness software glitch, and nothing more."

Gee, hmm, sounds like it was the fault of ATI's DRIVERS to me......

You mean OpenGL? Nvidia has always been faster at that.....

"The future: ATI and app-specific optimizations"

heh... what's that you were saying? :p

The fact is both companies have done it, there's no use pointing fingers like I have commented before........ that's not what I was posting about anyway....

I don't think its as much a bug in ATi drivers, as it is ID's lack of trying to make the game play as well on ATi hardware, for that I'm quite let down by ID software. I have read posts of too many game coders that shows poor work of polishing Doom3 for it to be a fair comparison of graphics cards.

Sure ATi can adjust there drivers to make up for where ID left off, and I'm sure they will by the next public Catalyst release.

it says right there that it is a bug in ati's drivers....

john carmack tore apart ATI and Nvidia's drivers during development and even recommended 9800's for the game long ago... there's a lot of controversy over this crap hehe
