Hey guys,
I'm in holland now and I don't have my own system here.
My dad has a barton 2600+ but with an IGP on a NF2.
My brother however has a P4 2.8 with 512 mb and an fx5500 128 mb.
I'm not sure whether his Vid Card an handle doom 3.
Thoughts?

I play it on high detail @ 1024x768 on a Geforce4 ti4600. Your brother's system should be more than adequate.
from what i've read online you can play it with a 64 meg card just on low quality.
according to tomshardware.com the 64 meg cards are for low quality, 128 for meduim quality, 256 for high quality, and the 512 ultra high quality (found that here http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040809/index.html )

Allright, while I'm at it, these are the complete specs of my brother's computer:
p4 2.8 800 fsb
albatron px665pe
512 dual channel
geforce 5500 128 mb
onboard sound
philips tft 170s 17 inch
So, since I don't know squad about games, what would be the best settings in Doom 3, I mean anti aliasing and more of that stuff I don't understand. What resolution, card overclocked or not etc.
Give me some hints please!!

I would say run it on medium quality, with no Anti aliasing, and no anisotropic filtering @ 1024x768. Should give you a very smooth game play. Though I have not yet played it, but going by the recommended settings in this article.

Personally I'm waiting on my 2600+ Mobile and Catalyst 4.8 for the added immersion factor.

I just ordered my 2600+ Mobile (I can't wait:) and the catalyst 4.8 drivers are now available for D/L

I guess I'm all out of excuses :D
Yeah running it on meduim would be the best bet. Its laggy when I run it on medium but my system specs are under what is actually required to play the game. since he's got a 2.8 with 512 memory you should be fine on medium

Okay, so I've been playing it for a week now and I'm seriously addicted. It turned out that my brother had one Gb of RAM and a prescott 3.0. The Prescott is impossible to overclock since at stock it runs in the 60's due to the crappy case.
The FX 5500 runs stock at 270,400 and I overclocked it stable to 320,435.
Doom runs without a single hitch at the LCD's native resolution of 1280*1024 at high quality so I really can't complain.
wOOsh!
