What's up with our lower border these days?
http://server6.uploadit.org/files/jurtje-border.jpg
Firefox btw
its a new style called JUD: Jacked up Design. You see, it's a marketing plow to get you to remember the site by seeing the abstract lower design.
If you don't buy that, Our bad, we can fix it.

what browser are you using?
btw, we will be undergoing a complete site redesign this semester, which will be completed and live (hopefully) by mid december.

yeh, that would be your problem. same thing happens in Konqueror. when the site was built, it was built exclusively for IE. i figure that it's just missing a couple tags someplace, but i haven't gone digging through the code to see. i would say that i'll get around to it, but to be honest, we'll be redoing the site (starting today actually), so it would be a bit futile.
rest assured though that the new design will be compatible with all browsers, not just IE. we're going to be building it mostly from scratch and designed around both IE and Konqueror/Mozilla/Firefox.
we still have to decide on a basic layout, but maybe we'll get your thoughts on the layout once we get a little something together on it. then again, we may just make it a big surprise come december
sorry you have to put up with it till then. i'd like to fix it, but one, it's not my code, so reading it would be tough, and two, i just don't have the time to tweak it right now :(

Heh, and here I always assumed that some madman had designed the site for a resolution higher than 1024 x 768.
Just one suggestion for the new design, guys: please please please no more of that slow-loading javascript on the front page. I lost track a long time ago of the number of times it's interfered with simple browsing.

lol, it might still have "some" java on it, mostly because that's the best way to do some of the stuff we're looking at. however, it won't be slow java like before. it will be more along the lines of java menus like frozencpu.com.
techniq and i are still working on the front page layout currently. we've got a lot of ideas that we're tossing around, but their all still on paper right now.
i think we are going to steer away from a blue and gray them. it's just too common in this line of business. however, once we have everything else done, we may work on making the site themeable so that you can choose a theme and keep that color/design each time you come to the site. that's a bit down the road right now, but we'll see how everything comes along.
i can tell you that right now we've decided to build it in PHP with just about everything being pulled from a SQL database. This will allow for everything to be dynamic, and maybe eventually themeable. also, the forums will pretty much stay the same as they are right now, but we will be tweaking it pretty heavily to fit with the new design.
also, the front page is going to have 3 sections for news....site news, tech news, and affiliate news.
that's enough to wet your whistle for now i think. btw, if anyone has any really good suggestions for things they'd like to see, let me know and we'll see what we can do. i can't promise that it will make it into the final design, but we'll consider anything. if it fits with the design and is concievable to be coded into the site, we'll go with it.
oh, one more thing. if we have enough bandwidth (or possibly dedicated server) down the road, look for the site to have some personal touches that will really set it apart.

Don't know what your plans are, actually this late in the thread, you've probably nearly finished. But my personal $.02...I like the header logo. It is actually what caught my eye when first visiting this site.

yeh, part of that may stay. it won't fit with the color themes we're lookin at, but we may tweak it a bit to fit. still don't know for sure though.
at the moment, we still deciding how to physically lay out the frontpage, without incorporating logos or what not. actually logo's and stuff may be the last things to go in, mostly because if we need to change something, we'll have to draw it up.

The firefox problem has now been fixed. Let me know if you know of any other problems (I know of border on some things (like Topic Review, Search page, etc). I might get around to fixing that, but probably not worth the effort till the redesign.

The entire site comes up fine in opera. I have the same problem with my own web site. I have to use IE to post entries in my weblog.

it works fine in firefox now, but in IE, it is broken... which is what most site visitors use.
