Cracked the piggy bank last week to finally upgrade my aging, and lousy oc'ing Pal chip.
Grabbed a 2600XP+(Barton core) and added it to my Epox 8RDA3+rev3.1, with 2*512Mb Infineon ram, FX5200, 2*WD40Gb,8Mb,CD/RW-ROM, DVD-ROM, Audigy2 MP3, Fortron 400W PSU. Added a good layer of AS5 to the northbridge(active cooling) and GPU on the vid card, board also has stock passive cooling on the southbridge.

wOOt!!!! It hits 2.51Ghz on stock cooling!!!

Ran it thru Sandra's burn in wizard 10x, 3DMark03, and runs stable. Proceeded to play an hour oc COD, and Enemy Territory, and never had a glitch! Max temps under the burn in wizard hit 47 degrees Celcius.

Very nice, what kind of voltage are you running on the core?

My M2600+ will run a stable 2.4Ghz. w/ only 1.6 volts 8) However when I pushed it to 2.5, temps went up another 5 degrees higher so I set it back to 2.4 until I can afford to pore some water on it.

BTW: heat sink is an original Swiftech 462 & temps are currently @ 48c with 100% CPU load.

Update:
Added 80mm black Delta to the same heatsink & temps are now around 40c under full load, but its a long way from quiet now :?

Have been running the current chip @ 1.775v, with the chipset bumped to 1.8v, and on stock cooling! It idles around 42 degrees, and hits 47-48 degrees under benchmarks and burn-in wizard with Sandra and 3Dmark03. Next up's a better vid card, so I can actually get a decent score on 3Dmark. The FX 5200 is a real hold-back in that department.

Stock hsf actually has a copper base with this chip, but I've also removed the northbridge cooler, and gpu cooler, and applied AS5 to both as well as the cpu hsf. AS5 made a some pretty dramatic temp decreases, even on my old Pal chip.

wanting to part with the 5200? my 4800 just died on me a few weeks ago.

little too low of spec for me ;-)

Yeah quite a downgrade there...
Funny thing about that...I bought a 5900 for 180 bout 1/2 a year ago and it died in about 2 months...sent it back and I got a FX 5900 Ultra 256mb for free! 2x the memory and speed. :D

2x the memory, not 2x the speed. ;)

But Free, too! It was good deal. What company was that?

I'd bet decent money that you wouldn't be able to pull off hte same deal. :p

Asylum. BFG Tech.
And It is about 2x the speed. Going from 400mhz to 800mhz. And I OC'ed it too.

No, your old fx5900 had either 400Mhz/800Mhz or 425Mhz/850Mhz memory... (or 350Mhz/700Mhz for an fx5900xt) and having 256Mb of ram doesn't make it twice as fast... unless you're just talking about the clock speed of the memory, that's just the difference between the actual clock and the effective clock... remember it's DDR memory...

I know. 128mb was my old one. and 400/800 I think. But I get 2/3 the speed with the old one.

nice overclock. i wish my motherboard would let me do that with my mobile  i tops out at 2.4, and i don't like running it there without watercooling on it (i have it, i'm just not using it ATM - need fans for the heatercore)

again, nice oc!
