We just recently moved into our new place a few months back. Every time we try to cook something in the oven, the bottoms get burnt. We have tried lowering the recommended heat by 25-50 degrees, and moved the cooking rack to the top shelf. is there any secret trick to keep the food from not turning black on the bottoms?

Get an oven thermometer, they are a couple of bucks at walmart. Your temp may be off more than that. I had an oven once that was about 175 degrees off.

or try getting some airbake pans

hrm, an oven thermometer... what exactly does that look like and what section would i find it in?

It would most likely be in the section where the cooking utensils are. The ones I've bought are round or hexagonal shaped, roughly 2" in diameter, stamped sheetmetal, and can either sit on the rack, or hang from it.

you could try putting your food in the oven upside down, no more burnt bases :D :D :D

hah, then we would have burnt tops!

we actually found an easy remedy for this... use a toaster oven! we picked up one of these for like 35 bux at wal-mart. no more burnt biscuits, muffins and cookies! woohoo! :)

Also, make sure you don't just put biscuits, muffins, and cookies directly on the oven rack, put them on a pan. :rimshot:

Seriously though...those air bake pans would really help too for items to big for the toaster oven.

Chances are the thermostat in your oven needs replacing or calibrating. Last time I replaced one it was about 10 bucks. They're not to hard to install either.
