Ok so I purchased a USB flash drive for easy transport of files from school and home. I get it home and plug it in to my front USB ports and heres what I get this

So at first though I was thinking what a piece of crap I just got it and its broken. I for the hell of it tried it in the back USBs and it worked right off. So I tried my mouse in the front USBs and it worked. I don't get it. Any Input?[/img]

thats happened to me before, only thing i could ever come up with is maybe the ports are different, like front is usb 1 and rear are usb two

But would that really make a difference? I thought USB 2 are also combatible with 1's?

What version of Windows are you using?

Edit: Errr...never mind you said it was working on the back ports.

Will any other devices work with the front USB?

It may have been a power thing, it takes slightly more power for the format, once done they work fine.

If I'm not mistaken, I've read of this problem with older bios on NF7-S...google is down right now so can't research it.

Never thought about leezard's idea...I don't have any USB2 devices, or I'd try it.

That sort of thing never happened with my NF7-S board, but I don't have a flash drive either. All my other USB parts work just fine though. You might want to check the MoBo connectors for the front USB connertors to see if they are plugged in right, Some cases have a one peace connector that is wired wrong or for USB1 instead of USB2.

Yeah, they are supposed to be compatable, but thats the only thing I could think of that would be different. It doesnt make a lot of sense why one device would work and another one not.

If i remember corretly it was also a thumb drive that i had a problem with. I would test it but my rig that had the problem is DOA till i buy a new proc.

Checked the wiring everything seems in order. I'm going to see If i can get a hold of another USB drive to try just to see. So far it looks like its not getting enough power, and from what I've read theres nothing you can do about it but get a powered usb hub.

This just in lol, I'm a moron. I just recently found out my Flash drive is not backwards compatible with 1.1. So that would explain why it reads in one set of USB portt and no the other. Hello refund

If this is an Nforce board, many known USB unknown problems show up. Buy a powered hub(USB2.0 compatible) and plug it into your usb port, and then anything else that does't normally work in the pc usb ports into the hub. It changes the way they are enumerated, and should correct the problem.
