Kathy Swanson of the state Office of Traffic Safety said unless Tilley was wearing the kind of protective gear professional motorcycle racers wear, he was courting death at 200 mph.

LOL...there ain't a protective gear in the world that will save your ass if you hit a tree...with or without your bike...at 50mph...let alone 200+.

I saw this the other night on Headline News at work...we got a helluva laugh out of it.

I listen to the scanner all the time, always cheer for the bad guys :D Though the fastest so far of 195 with the Po Po suspecting a Supra being the fleeing vehicle

"I'm not entirely sure what would happen if you crashed at 200 miles per hour," Swanson said. "But it wouldn't be pretty, that's for sure."

lol, well duhh.....

Couple years ago...well closer to 7-8 we used to get "chased" by the Dallas police helicopter about once or twice a month. Lucky for us it could only fly about 90 MPH. A year or so later they bought a new heli and there was no outrunning it.

There was normally about 15-20 of us all on sport bikes that rode as a group....fun fun times. Fastest I was ever radared was 142MPH on a 97 GSXR 750

No kneepads buddy. I was in a rental, i had wreck about a week before that incident, and broke my wrist, when the cop caught up to me and put his lights on, i was picking up siq so I had to stop, he gets out and askes me what im doing, doesnt try to be a prick to me since Im already out of the car, he saw my wrist and said let me guess, you lost control because you were driving to fast. I was like no, i got run off the road by a tractor trailer, and he was like ohh, that sucks. Well do me a favor, cool it, i know its a rental and you want to tear it up, but dont speed down my street, next time I wont let ya off the hook. I was like god, if you are listening, I will change my life around, ill be good. that lasted about 15 secs, then I went back to cusing, because if a cop loses site of ya in a chase, then they cannot pursue ya.

Outran a chopper on my ZX-10 once...I had a few mods done, ignition, bigger carbs, open air cleaners, tuned header and pipe, rear gear change to mention a few. By the time I found a pull-off to sit down and have a smoke, the chopper was long gone....decided to have a second smoke when the chase car camaro pulled up. Had an interesting conversation with the officer, but nothing came of it. The chopper couldn't time me between lines on the pave, as I'd gone through three before he could click on and off on the stopwatch, and was pulling away fast. When I spotted him I was only cruising at 150k in 5th gear, had one more left, and about 2000 rpm before redline in 5th....

Side note...wrote that bike off when a car pulled out of a similar pull-off a few weeks later...and quit riding for about 2 yrs. Scared myself silly on that idea at the time. I still love riding and still ride now, but with much more caution, and was glad that at the time I'd been wearing full gear.
