My current system consists of an Athlon 1700 @ 2400, Epox 8RDA+ and a WD 80GB 8mb Cache 7200 rpm drive, among other items.

I just ordered an Athlon 64 3000+, Gigabyte GA K8NS mobo and a 74 GB WD Raptor 10,000 rpm drive.

I am expecting a pretty big performance gain going from the T-Bred to the A64, not to mention how much the Raptor will help with load times and the sort.

:D :D :D :D :D

I ordered an Antec Neo 480 PSU a couple days ago, should be here in another day or two.
I'm thinking my current 300watt is whats keeping my M-2600+ from going any higher than 2.5Ghz, that and my voltage rails are all over the place.

heh, im not expecting much, considering my ram isnt that great and the board is, well, prolly not too good for overclocking either :)

I think you'll atleast get 2.2Ghz out of it.. guess we'll see.

What showed up in my mail box yesterday

nice... where did you pick up that set of sinks and for how much? :)

undergroundtech
11-14-2004, 12:59 PM
I got them from Sidewinder Computers, I got enough for both my PC's for $44.00.
However it will vary since this was not a kit, I just picked out what I needed.

Sidewinder is the only place that I know of that sell them in the Silver color

what items do you plan to cool with those sinks?

ive always wanted to get a lot of smaller sized sinks and affix them to every chip on the motherboard. some chips, such as the mosfets around the cpu socket, get extremely hot during use. surely it would benefit to cool these, right?

just a silly idea i had perhaps...

undergroundtech

I put them on all the mosfets, PLL's and one for the Southbridge

OCmod Shop had a good article about adding extra cooling
http://www.ocmodshop.com/default.aspx?a=208

I'm surprised how much heat rolls off these small sinks 8)

ahh, perhaps i wasnt off my rocker with that idea.

have you done this before? and if so, have you noticed any improvement in voltage regulation and overclockability?

This is the first I've tried them, and I can't OC any higher to test them until I get some better memory. However, they seem to dissipate a fair amount of heat, that can only be a good thing.

me, too

actually, i'd like to find some older decent radio equipment, and cut the heatsinks up to put on hdds, router, etc

Intresting

Looks like I just found my next mod after I lap my cpu, chipset and gpu heatsink. I get a 3/4v flux. on my cpu so maybe thatll help out.

UPS sure seems slow, when your waiting on your new hardware.
I ordered this case a couple days ago, can't wait for it to get here.

after talking with silenze about his memory settings, i decided to try my luck at 5:4 divisor.

previously, i could only pull 220 fsb @ 1:1. anything higher and my video card acted up.

so i dropped down to 5:4 and am currently running 250 FSB ( 2.5 GHz ) stable, up from 2.2 GHz before. nice little improvement
