Hey, kind of a useless topic at this point, but if I get a response it will go somewhere, if that makes sense. :) I'm currently in my first semester of Java, and basically every time I work on a project I end up with some problem that keeps me from getting the program to work. I'm curious if there's anyone around here that knows Java and would be willing to help if I post it here when the time comes. Anyone?

I have taken a Java class, which was actually taught by one of the better Java people in the country. However, it was hard as crap and i really struggled getting through the course. Top that off with the fact I took it almost 2 years ago, and you can see I won't remember much about it. However, both Techniq and I will be diving into Javascript (significantly different, but alot alike) this semester for our site redesign. Oh, and Playafly is in a Java class right now I think.
Regardless, you are more than welcome to browse through the Java stuff that I have saved from that class. Most of it is even in version numbers so you can kinda work your way through it. Just hit me up on AIM or something if you want it.

Allright man, thanks, I'll do that sometime.
You'd think that this would be at least marginally easy for me, since I spent the last semester of my senior year of high school teaching myself VB, and have that knowledge still, but the Prof I got stuck with sucks... and by sucks, I mean I hate him. :)

VB actually won't help you much with Java, even VB.net as it's still not an object oriented langauge. VB.net is, at best, object based. however, if you want something that is relatively close, both in logic and syntax, you might want to look at c++. it's still very different from Java, but alot of it is the same.

Actually it was VB6, and as far as I know VB is object oriented. :) I wasn't saying they are directly related though, it's more that I have base knowledge on how programming works.
Speaking of VB .Net, I just took a 50 question exam on it ;\. Something bugs me about having to take this class and all I'm doing is programming things to crash in windows.

Heh, after I had learned a lot of VB I decided it was basically useless except as a useless-app-creating language. :) I did manage to throw together a calculator, a semifunctional yahtzee game, and a little app that runs in the system tray, allowing access to the different parts of my web site. (This one was actually really cool, double clicking the icon got you the main page, right click brought up a menu with different options, such as emailing, or going to specific pages.)

Yo I am pretty proficient in Java, I can help you out if you have questions or if you can't get a program to work I can probably find the problem for you or offer some insight. By proficient I mean I know file/data I/O, threads n synchronization, GUI stuff, basically probably whatever you need.
VB is object oriented...but its so stupid...the way it...sucks....i don't know what they were thinkin...it just seems so useless after having used it and moved on to other 'simpler' things that can do way more. of course it is somewhat usefull for creating windows apps very quickly.
