I bought one cheap (at cost) when I worked at Best Buy. Its been handy a few times, mainly only for flickers, but its great when we blow a breaker at our LANs and only me and the few on laptops are still running.

No need for one. Cost for inconvenience? No way.

Not yet, but it’s on my list of things to get.
On my block the power seems to go out for a sec. every time it rains or the wind blows. The clocks have to all be reset, prolly once every 2 or 3 days.

I will be purchasing one soon. Had a few power outages here at school so far this year; one that almost resulted in the loss of my stored emails in Outlook... :(

Well worth it to save Data. Plus repeated power outages kill hard drives, power supplies and can be hard on other components as well.

I don't use one... I have two different backup copies of my important data stored on separate disks. I also have a regular surge protector to avoid damage from power surges, If somehow all of that data still manages to get lost despite these precautions, well, then maybe it's a sign that I shouldn't have had the data in the first place.

UPS are not for archived/stored data as they are for data 'in use'. If you happen not to save every 5 minutes and the power goes out, then your up a creek when the power flickers/goes out. Also, if you were saving (not so common on small files, but think of 100+ meg photoshop/etc files) and the power goes out, you run a high risk of just waxing your saved file as well (only saved it partially, etc). While most apps have an autosave/autorecover feature, not all do.

I wouldnt mind having a UPS, my need for one just doesnt merit going out and buying one right now. It makes a great little insurace policy but I like to live dangerously every once in a while. If I did purchase a UPS I would make sure that I got UPS to ship it :rimshot:

i got one that will support like 10~15min of power in case of outage, enough for me to save files during the outage and shut the system down.

Now that i know what it is it would be cool to have one, considering all the black outs i get in my area.
