I'm still going CRT, because although they are large, your getting a better quality monitor for a lot less price.

I'll second that, if and when the price comes down, I might get a LCD.

I agree. I wouldnt mind owning an LCD, simply for the fact that it would save a lot of desk space. Also, CRT allows for higher resolutions and are much cheaper than LCD. My 19" CRT does its job nicely, so I will stick with it for a while longer :)

CRT w/ flat display....The performance you get for the price is hard to beat, though I would like to have an LCD for my file server (non-gaming PC).

CRTs are still the best for gaming.
There are some sweet LCDs out there but the prices too big.

Agree with everyone else here. IMO LCDs are only good in work enviroments where space is a great consideration and refresh/etc is second.s

Thought:
Why pay ~$275-300 for 15" of screen when you can pay under $200 for 19" of higher resolution, longer lasting screen....

Oh... wait... :)
Sorry, just wanted a dissenting opinion.

dissenting opinion granted :-)
I actually prefer LCD's now.
1. The technology is here now to make LCD's suitable for gaming. Most ordinary LCD's are free from ghosting now, which was the big complaint in the past.
2. Taking an LCD to a LAN is so much easier than lugging around a 60lb+ CRT
3. Desk space
4. No glare from the window(s) behind you.
5. Autofocus. Sure, it's not a big deal, unless you reinstall Winders alot or change video cards semi-frequently. Being able to push one button and get the screen centerred is handy.
6. Development of LCD's that take multiple inputs....DVI, VGA, S-Video, Composite, etc

^ what he said, although I still have a CRT for the gaming rig at the house.

More dissenting:
LCD's have better contrast, more clarity in general (with the auto adjust) and are easier on the eyes.
They're just expensive compared to CRT's...

Current roomie has one...easier on the eyes I don't know about...it auto adjusts...but I really do prefer my old 17 inch CRT compared to his 19 inch lcd any day. Not that much of a fan yet...I'd be going for a flat screen myself personally...offers the reliability of the crt, and a better picture. 21 incher here I come!

They are seriously easier on your eyes than a traditional CRT :)

I'm assuming the flat screen here, as opposed to the lcd? the lcd I found very hard on the eyes....he's got a comparable system to mine(his vid card is better, my motherboard and cpu are a bit better, and I have another 512Mb ram....his 2500+ only clocks up to 2.3 reliably, where my 2600 clocks up to 2.51, but run it at 2.43, his 9600 ati card is kick ass over my 5200 Nvidia, but so be it...for most intensive purposes...I'll take mine...a vid card is no huge difference over-all at this point. We're both running Nvidia N-force boards that support 400Mhz FSB, but mine offers better overclocking features, S-ATA, and dual LAN where his has IDE only, and only passive stock cooling on the chipset(northbridge only) mine has active on the northbridge and passive on the southbridge...interestingly enough...my joystick doesn't work on either...still ready to either sell it and buy a non-force feedback unit, or build a via chipset based system soon so I can use it again.

I mean LCD's hehe
Edit;
" Is it true that LCD monitors are easier on your eyes?
Yes. Unlike CRT monitors, the images on LCD monitors refresh a pixel, rather than an entire line, at a time. The images on CRT monitors (as well as televisions) are redrawn at a rapid rate not usually discernable to the eye. This is why photographs of television and CRT screens don't turn out (and why when you look into a dark room brightened only by a television there seems to be mild strobe effect on the walls of the room). This refreshing of CRT screens (measured as frequency) can cause eyestrain for some people. LCDs do not flicker and often cause less eyestrain.
TFT standard LCDs (TFT stands for "Thin Film Transistor") are also easier on your eyes because they do not emit low levels of electromagnetic radiation, a field released in very small amounts by CRT screens and non-TFT LCDs. The long-term effects of exposure to electromagnetic radiation is unknown and still being studied, though one expert has advised that sitting more than 28 inches away from the monitor will greatly reduce your exposure."

You won't make me an LCD fan as yet....they're ok, but I've played with his pc over the last few weeks, and still prefer my screen. Old as it is...it works better for me in way to many aspects.

Same... the "trinitron" (thank you, Sony... x-flat, super flat, etc) type tubes are easier on the eyes than the regular fish-eyed CRT monitors, but LCDs do take the crown in that area.. I prefer a 19" super flat for $199 over a 15" LCD for $299 myself

Samsung 17" LCD for free. TV tuner built in w/ PIP. Football in the corner and OCIA.net in the background. Dad bought it for my mom. Mom went and bought a Mac. Mom doesn't need a second monitor. Monitor ends up on my desk. Yeah!! I love freebies. No problems with ghosting.

I have a regular old 17" CRT monitor. I figure why upgrade if I'm not pressed for space, and besides, CRTs still yield better image quality than LCDs at a lower price.

lol, i used to pick up 75lbs of good old computer case plus the 60lbs of monitor for each lan. after awhile though, you realize that it's just much more effective to not have to carry so much. oh, i also used to carry my entire surround sound system. now it's the 5.1 headphones [smilie=icon_rr.gif]
