I have the SSlllloooooooooww Internet connection, 56K that runs like its on a 36K connection. Seems like I should get something, a reward, a tax break, something....for being stuck with such a slow connection

Just this morning, since it's a little damp outside, it went on the fritz.

Sounds like your cable or phone line is getting wet. Probably best to call in a line tech to check it out.

For those on dial-up, overclock your modem ;)

Heh, beat this. At home I'm on a 28.8. The modems 56k, but the line is 28.8. Oh yeah, cower in fear.

I'm currently on a DSL connection @ 10Mbps, requiring the use of PPPoE to connect. Ironically enough, installed the software that came with the self connection kit, and it conflicted horribly with XP Pro. After some research, found that XP comes with it's own PPPoE options, and was able to get rid of the software. The bottom of the XP help page actually stated there were known issues with the software my ISP provided me. Go figure?

Heh, that was for drama's sake. I think it's just the provider. The service has been flaking out rain or shine lately. I've heard cases about the line getting wet, before, though.

American based forum mostly mdw....different providers south of the border. Keep in mind here...we're invading as Canucks ;) but then again....they're cool with that to ;) More than a few previous Canucks in here for members, and it's all a great crowd.

NP on that...check the place out, you'll find it pretty relaxed, and if ya need some serious hardware help, this is the place to come to...these guys go to school for this sort of thing, or already work in the field of pc support, tech, testing, you name it....and they don't have a huge head about it...more than willing to help out guys like us who may not know as much but need to ask something.

I have a local cable provider, Armstrong, i have had them for 3 years, ive been out of cable for a total of 3 days, of couse anytime ive taken it down to move stuff and what not, other than that its been great. Starting out it was 512 down and 128 up, now its been taken up to 3 meg down and 256 up. At 43 bucks a month i am definately not going to complain.

for those confused, he is referring to tenaciouspd's extensive collection of star wars figures which take up most of the room.

its bad enough, i have all of the figures are archived on a cd, in a safety deposit box that I update when a new figure arrives, and we are waiting on our insurance people to appriase my collection. See how much its worth to them.

Someone in Key West Florida is going to strike it rich someday then. My uncle went through probably 4 complete sets of those back in the 70's/early 80's, which he buried in the sand and forgot about.

When you say 'we', I can only assume you do not refer to a girlfriend/wife. :) Since I can't see a girl being thrilled about that.

My brother is a Star Wars fiend and had I believe 13 g/f's through highschool..... (Not something I necessarily respect him for...)

You haven't talked to many girls then... or they're just too young, or something.. I know of a quite a few girls into Star Wars.. and even geekier things :)

almost zero around here. for instance, in my computer related classes here at MU, i'd had less girls in my class than i can count on both hands. even worse, only about 2 of them them that i considerred attractive...attractive as in just cute, not stunning.

however, step on over to my other types of classes like communications class (which Siq can attest for) and the classes are about half girls with a few knockouts in each class. heck, even some of the teachers are hot.

then stroll over to the education department and you'll wonder where all the hot teachers go after they graduate. i don't remember having teachers like that when i was in school, cept maybe one or two. journalism is the same way.

anyway, it's pretty much a given that if you take computer classes or higher level math classes that you are going to be in there with a bunch of hairy legs. girls just don't "generally" have an interest in the above.

Cable (fiber to the pole)
but I'v had
DSL
Satellite
ISDN
pairbonded 56k's
56k
28k
14k
9.6k
2400bps
1200bps
and I started with a 300 baud modem (30 characters per second)
Cable has been by far the fastest, most reliable.
Verizon has said our area will start getting fiber to the house next year, but given their general additude I'm not holding my breath.

she doesnt mind, she really cant say much, i dont drain her money on them, and since i had so many that the ones im missing are considered rare finds, she doesnt have to worry about getting me star wars stuff since i have most of it anyway, makes her life easy on birthdays and christmas.

Im currently working on the ultimate star wars figure, the complete armor and suit of darth vader. I plan on getting a couple more after that, but darth vader is the first, big enough I can wear it on opening night for episode 3.

I know I am a geek, but I enjoy it.
