After I've been posting a while I get an error about 'too many smtp connections' if I recall correctly, when I go to post. My posts still go up, but I have to back out to the index.

Yup that's normal.. has been happening lately with this hosting company. It seems they need to up the concurrent connection limit on their smtp server.... basically, the post gets submitted, as you've noticed, just no email notifies get sent.

Hmm... that shouldn't have anything to do with email, unless someone else is getting emailed, in which case its odd that I get the error.

SMTP -- simple mail transfer protocol, it is the type of server used more often than not when you're sending email.
Was it a new thread? If not, other people are "watching" this thread, and when there is a reply, they get notified with an email. That happens when you click the 'submit' button. (There is also the possibility that a moderator is getting sent an email notifying of new threads to moderate as well.. ;) )

:) Thanks, I knew what SMTP was. I was simply noting that it wasn't sending me email, so it had to be someone else getting it.
