jurtje's overclocking got me thinking; perhaps we as a forum could create a few other guides for our readers?

ideas that come to mind include a windows tweaking guide and maybe a system building guide, or say like a budge building guide; whereas we take a certain budget and try to get the best perfomance out of that money.

thoughts / comments ?

Sounds good.... how much did YOU want to spend

However, a guide to building the Ultimate gaming rig sounds like more fun

Definitely a good point...You really need to build the rig, instead of theorize on it. I'll volunteer for a 1200-1500 buck rig if someone wants to fund it.

Actually, hope to build one in Feb-Mar.

There are several other Windows Tweak sites out there, though I think its not a bad idea. I suggest that only tweaks that really work mentioned, though. I'm pretty sure that pretty much all of the tweaks I have done, excepting to kill Messenger, really didn't help, and most of them actually hurt performance.

Meh, what irritates me are tweaks like getting rid of the background and screensaver and setting the menus to '98 style. If I wanted a buttugly computer in exchange for performance, I wouldn't be running XP in the first place.

a year ago, i would've told you to run 2k, but now that MS is on their big "no more updates except for XP" kick, then you don't really have a choice
