Do you commonly leave your computer on for long periods of time doing nothing? Why not join the OCIA.net Folding@Home team and make good use of those CPU cycles by combining them with our teams effort to help fight disease!

Check out our Folding FAQ (http://forums.ocia.net/viewtopic.php?t=768) thread.

You can download the client program from Stanford (http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html).

Once you have the program installed, it will ask you for a username. Any name that is not already taken should work just fine. Next, you have the option to enter a team id. The OCIA.net team id is: 12913

At any time, you may visit the OCIA.net Team Stats (http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=12913) page to see how you rank.

We look forward to having you on the team, working side by side with OCIA.net staff to help potentially find cures for these life threatening diseases.

I have a pretty through FAQ that I prepared for F@H if you would be interested in that Playa. Let me know... it's a simple matter of copy and paste.

I did do a check though, and it looks like only 3 of the members are still actively contributing. I hope that number grows over the coming weeks.

I can't believe only one member has posted in here so far... that is really kind of a letdown. I thought peeps would be more interested. Maybe you should make some of those contests for folders only... that would get people to join up. Just a thought...

There's no way it can make your comp run that hot at 10% or even 50%. I mean, games use more than 50% of teh cpu... what temps are you getting???

Yeah, some would. That's what happened at EOC. But folding is good competition, and that makes it kinda fun. I have no doubt that if you held a couple things for folders only then some of them would get hooked and stick around. Heck, how do you think I first got interested?

I for a while couldn't get mine to work as it would lock up my computer. I've worked on it for a while and finally it works almost flawlessly (has the occasional lock up). So I'll set it up for our team and fold away.

P4 E 2.8Ghz / 512MB DDR2 xp pro
P4 E 3.0Ghz / 512MB DDR xp pro
P4 E 3.0Ghz / 512MB DDR xp pro

Achilles, welcome aboard the team!!! It's great to see that we are getting at leats a few new members form time to time. If we pick up one new member each week, then we will have 55 by the end of teh year. Hopefully the number of members will increase exponentially as well.

Well, not really. There's a law of diminishing returns. You get a system much under a Ghz and you're not going to be very productive. Down around 500Mhz and lower it's probably not worth the electricity to run it.

I ran it on a Pentium 200 once and it took 4 days to finish a wu. And that was probably 2 years ago when the wu were worth like 10 points, and a 2 Ghz machine could do one in about 4 hours.

Good to see some more people jumping onboard. I ahven't been around very much to post because I have been looking for a job something nasty recently, but I do check in from time to time. You guys are doing quite well. Just don't give up and remember that everythign helps, except maybe that Pentium 200 someone was talking about. The pollution generated as a result of its use of electricity would probably more than negate any positive effect from folding.

I just signed up and I am a little confused. I joined the OCIA team and F@H is running now. My WU is expected to end in 10 days. Does this seem weird? I am running at 2.6GHz also how do I set up F@H so that I can run it while I go to school and then stop it when I come home??? Any help would be great

FunkZ
03-07-2006, 01:03 AM
The simplest method would be to use the Windows graphical client. This puts an icon on your taskbar and you can start or pause it from there.

10 days to complete a folding unit seems unreasonably high for a 2.6 Ghz machine. Did you change the priority F@H runs at or any of the other default settings?

royalk4
03-07-2006, 02:36 AM
no... it eventually lowered so that it would be tomorrow. I had to pause it though while I was doing some homework and such

Team Number, your name, how many projets you've done, frames completed, ETA and some molecular graphics.... Something like this:

http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/2634/13jl1.th.png (http://img63.imageshack.us/my.php?image=13jl1.png)

Not much interesting information. You can check the unitinfo.txt (% completed) and FAHlog.txt (Which frame completed), which are in the F@H folder, to see your status instead of the graph
